PM Narendra Modi abolishes all ministerial groups
NEW DELHI: Dismantling a legacy of UPA rule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi abolished all the 30 GoMs and EGoMs on Saturday and told ministries and departments to take decisions on pending matters.
Announcing the decision to scrap nine empowered groups of ministers and 21 groups of ministers, the PMO said this would expedite the process of decision-making and "usher in greater accountability in the system".
The ministries and departments will now process the issues pending before EGoMs and GoMs and take appropriate decisions at the level of ministries and departments itself, said the statement.
It said wherever the ministries face difficulties, the Cabinet secretariat and the Prime Minister's Office will facilitate the decision-making process.
The statement announcing the abolition of EGoMS and GoMs termed it as "major move" to empower the ministries and departments....

Re: PM Narendra Modi abolishes all ministerial groups
Looks like he is empowering the administration and opening a direct link with the PMO. Things will move fast.
However, he is at the same time consolidating his own power and marginalizing ministerial (i.e., political) influence. Don't know if this is all that healthy in the long run. As long as things get done fast and corruption is controlled, there will be development and a change in people's mindset.
CONartists may start thinking of moving away from politics since there won't be that much money to be made if Modi succeeds to building an efficient and confident administration. The Laloos, Mulayams and Mayas may also become history.

What about the Paswans? Will the Paswans continue to rake in the moolah?

all these GoMs were about how to share the loot and bribe. After all ALL decisions were made by the Italian Mata.
Modi is consolidating - in the name of efficiency. Will see how it pans out in 3 years. That is when troubles will brew within BJP. Ironically, it is the other hated group of the iSlamo-apologists, the RSS that is likely to keep the autocratic tendencies of Modi ji under check.

Paswan must be crying already. He may see no point in going to office. He will stay at home and get addicted to the internet. His wife may start doubting his manhood and file for divorce. Diggy may try and convince her that he is still capable of making some money using CONgames here and there. However, she may not give any Amrit to him. Diggy will renounce the world, become a CONfakir and go to Korakorum mountains in PakiSatan to meditate on goats.Rashmun wrote:Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:Looks like he is empowering the administration and opening a direct link with the PMO. It is going to be a challenge to evolve a new administration.Vakavaka Pakapaka wrote:Looks like he is empowering the administration and opening a direct link with the PMO. Things will move fast.

Too much centralization can lead to issues, if the secretaries he relies on are not competent. On the other hand eGOM kind of problems can lead to conflicts and prolonged periods of indecision.
eGOM was first started by Vajpayee, but MMS carried it too far, with Antony and Chidambaram heading too many of them.
It is likely that Modi will make mistakes, but what is important is whether he has the capacity to quickly correct the mistakes, and learn from it.
Congress did every decision based on political calculations and ruined the country in that process. Modi has to learn, at a national level the art of balancing needs of governance Vs Politics. There is no one single magic wand, and he has to adapt the strategy of managing the bureaucracy based on the problems at hand. and associated flexibility. Currently he has given highest priority to governance and growth & fighting inflation. However, at the end of day, winning elections are also important. Trickle down capitalism takes time to barrel down to the poor. Until that happens, he has to keep subsidies or targeted development programs that provide succor to the poor.
Finding this balance is important.

The next step for Modi should be to turn the 10 Janpath (residence) into a national museum, so ordinary people have the access and opportunity to visit the once P.M.'s official residence and seat of power right in the middle of Govt. depts. and ministries.
