I am positively surprised by the rapid growth of Indian renewable energy sector in the past decade. UPA was running the show in the center.  India is producing 31 gw of electric power in may 2014 from other renewable (non nuclear and non hydro) source compared to 1.6 gw in 2002.  That is nearly 20 times more.

I was surprised that UPA govt did not pysh this kind of information as an achievement.

The largest wind farm is in TN.
Largest solar energy farm is in Gujarat.

States leading these efforts are usual suspects TN, gujarat, MH, Karnataka and to a small extent AP.  Rajasthan is joining these ranks.

Solar energy production has taken off since 2010 JN ...scheme.  It went from nearly nothing to 2gw and is targeted to reach 20gw around 2020.

Avg indian consumes 1/6th or 1/10th of european electric power consumption (depending upon your source). There is an urgent and continuing need for electric power development.

Can India continue to maintain the pace of development under modi govt?
