Yes for JAFFA (#, a city in Israel, and a well bowled delivery in cricket.
Yes for STUMP (#9) -- STU (SeToUq)+MP --- quotes reversed and alternate letters.
Set solved. Thanks everyone.

I originally thought about NATAL as the answer for the clue. After I posted the set I realized that NATAL is not a city but a province in SA. Then bw saved the day with the JAFFA answer. I did not need to scrub the clue. Thanks bw:-)

really? my answer wasn't even the one you were looking for - haha!
i must confess that i immediately thought of cricket when i saw "delivery" and was trying hard to somehow fit yorker/york but the letter count didn't match. i gave up on it until i cracked STUMP. a lot of brit crosswords use cricket terminology.
thanks for the set. i will post the next one - though it will just be clues taken from a newspaper and not original ones.
