Mom used to get new ganesh moorti that morning. For all 10 days I used to make a mala out of white flowers. Join four of them at a time and sew through the stems. Would do aarti every evening. Did this until bro got married and bhabhi took over. Similar small traditions on other days like kartik, navratri, diwali, etc.

Here, I didn't get a new ganesh every year. Last year I think I got new Ganesh, and I thought I will continue this every year, but I don't even remember what I did. I don't know what to do with glass or metal ganesh idols at the end of it coz of ecological issues. I don't know if they have clay idols in the stores here. Point is, I am not religious or traditional anymore.

So many things kids will probably never know. I tell them, but can't expect them to remember things they have not seen. Not sure if it matters, except they have no idea of my life. Not sure what is the real me. That one or this one.

ah ok... we used to make modak. Just told xh to see if he can find modak in the stores t'row. He goes, 'you make it'. I said I don't know how to. He is rolling his eyes, 'if you can google, you can cook'.

Maybe I should look for them tomorrow in the stores. Next year I will learn DIY ganesh idols, I saw some videos this year but too late.
