Some of those things depressed me. There was another poem Lucy Gray, where a kid goes looking for her father and gets lost in the fog or something. You are left to figure out that she went the way of the erstwhile CH.. This was really morbid..

i know the feeling. I just got thru writing a check. They have this Alternative Minimum Tax scheme whereby its essentially 'its all wonderful you have deductions, here tell us what you computed, we will figure out what it should be and you pay the difference'

i drive in india, so i cannot say i hate slow drivers in the fastest lane because no such lane exists in india. i hate slow drivers. that's all. especially those truck drivers. a truck drives at funeral pace in one lane, and the other one who is also driving at funeral pace tries to overtake from the other lane. grinds my gears.

and then there are those idiots driving at night in high beam on the by-lanes of pune.

then there are those bozos who take the elevator from the ground floor to the first and there are bozos X 10 who take it from the first to the ground wasting my precious 7 seconds.

driving in india is seriously hazardous to health. small indica type tourist cabs, auto drivers and guys on motorbikes are the worst. their weaving through traffic, blind turning and changing lanes creates dangerous conditions for everyone.
not turning lights on after dark while driving is also irritating. i think they believe that turning the lights on is a drain on gas or battery!

LOL. i find truck drivers to be the most benign of creatures on the indian highways. they oblige very easily when asked for a pass and even indicate if they cannot give you a pass immediately. mostly importantly, they let you get to the top of the queue in a long toll line. again, in in times of seige, hariharan quite amusingly narrates what was written on the backside of a truck. on the right was an arrow pointing to the right and written below it was "RIGHT SIDE." on the left was an equally prominent arrow with the words "SU-SIDE" written below it.

The monorail project for which every street is dug up and reduced to a single lane
Pedestrians ambling in the middle of the street, partly due to #1 and #2
Mumbai's taxis -- those wheezy rattletraps that don't follow any driving rules
Motorcyclists who cut in and out of lanes at whim
People who carry a fat wife, two kids and a newborn on one ancient Vespa
Slums and filth
Politicians who patronize slums and change laws at whim to regularize squatters

that is true. but then there are some of those who want to pass others at a very slow speed and it takes them minutes to pass. then again, i understand their problems. it is not always possible for them to drive in the left most lane because of six-seaters, three-wheelers, parallel bikers*, elderly unkils, bicycles and at times vehicles coming in the opposite direction(pune special). and they don't even have a power steering in their trucks, i think.

* a phenomenon unique to india. two bikers skillfully riding at 30 on a highway, parallel to each other, discussing munni vs sheila in the left most lane.
