Xi's visit to India
Xi is planning to promise big investment in railways and manufacturing in India.
"we hope you raise your efficiency of work" china's request of India. (get off your bums, lazy fellows).
Modi in his over enthusiasm to please his japanese hosts may have pushed his luck by hinting at china being a bully. I am sure he will hear from Xi what China thinks of his words.

So can a Gujju's business sense beat a Chinkus cunning sense?

Bloomberg says Xi cancelled his Pakistan stop (which was scheduled along with India visit) citing security reasons.
Gujju's are thrifty (some call it as stingy), and Chinese are super thrifty. So it has to be a really good deal if both agree..

Re: Xi's visit to India
China has massive overcapacity in its railway manufacturing companies. In addition there is a credibility issue with Chinese Railways (the technology is widely suspected to be plagiarized from technology provided by foreign companies). So China is in some sense desperate to get an installation of its railways in India, to raise its credibility, and would do anything to keep its factories going (companies going into bankruptcy can cause political unrest in China). India has wisely (at least until now) asked for help in tracks/stations but not on trains. There is nothing to beat the stellar 50 year safety record of Japanese and 30 year safety record of Europeans. India should not be a dump yard for Chinese technology, as in telecom, and it is not India's job to bail out the Chinesetruthbetold wrote:Xi is planning to promise big investment in railways and manufacturing in India.

But given the stakes for china, I suspect China would settle for getting a foot in the door. It will try to ask for at least one leg where Chinese bullet trains are involved and will be willing to bankroll the entire effort to get a design win. This way they can then claim to all other countries that there is world recognition for Chinese railway technology. As of now they are installing it in a few poor countries, and have not had a design win in any of the bigger ones.
