Ya ok, that's a bit of stretch... what is happiness anyway. But anyway, let's call them pleasures done in a glad way. you know what I mean? I think you know what I mean.

So, what are the small things that make you happy?

dark chocolate? (that'd be me)
a small peg of scotch?
what else? a kid's warm hug?
a puppy at home, running up to you. Or (*shudder*) a cat?
seeing baba go to 93 for ONCE?
smell of butter chicken masala w/crisp naan?
freshly done laundry?
a small crease on modi's vest?

I will respond to your first question:

Happiness is not being unhappy....

dunno. last so many years, I have been largely unhappy. And yet there are many many many moments - can't even count - when I have laughed with abandon. Or completely lived a moment and be happy/satisfied within it e.g. work, or outing, or friends, forgetting everything else ... then go back to being unhappy about overall state of things. That's what this is about.

lol there we go again. I think I know what makes you happy. Or atleast one of the things. i.e. to make and feed your family with freshly cooked all natural and healthy food for all the meals. I don't know if you can achieve that daily, but am sure that gives a certain satisfaction on all days that you do.

I am gonna achieve that to some extent today. That is, spring lauki sabzi to them for dinner. Will make me very happy. Have thought up the lauki-daal recipe too (I think it's an SI recipe as it wants me to add curry leaves to it). This lauki sabzi for dinner may make them unhappy though. But I hope it will be all good in the long run. The unhappy part is the market roti, but I will let it slide.

I find shaving everyday a big nuisance as I grow old. Perhaps this is also the reason that all the old / ancient sages, seers and prophets are shown in pictures etc. having long hair and beards. This probably also led to the "importance" of long hair and beards for religionists.

2. dee's amusement in an exchange of text messages;

3. and yes, dark, semi-bitter chocolate or cheese cake, with plain - light, uncontaminated by milk, sugar, honey, lemon, or spices - nilagiri tea;

4. discovering a new piece of jazz, or a cappella music, naturally rich with harmony, from penn masala or the king's singers.

well, i'm really looking forward to curling up in bed with my pink comforter. i got it from sis when she finished college or grad school so we're talking at least 10 yrs old. it is torn in a few places and the fuzz is coming out in a few places. I really should darn it this weekend. well, 12 more hours to go before I can hit the sack. my comforter is very comforting

I like to try out new body washes.

swimming makes me happy

I like surprising my sister. we found ourselves in the city the other day and we were running to penn station and we couldn't get a cab. Suddenly this Nigerian guy comes up to us in his rickety rickshaw and offers to get us there as fast as he can and I just jumped in without a thought and sis had no choice but to follow me. And the whole ride she was clinging to me and screaming. I had to tell her to look up and enjoy the lights and the wind in our faces. Sis says there is never a dull moment with me around. anyhow, he was fast!! he did a fantastic job. i must confess though that the rickshaw was fragile. If you are a parent, I wouldn't recommend it.

you try body washes from bath and body works? that's my older's heaven.

never tried it here. kids love the auto rickshaws in india, we get on them atleast once. they get embarrassed sometimes when i argue with them about the broken meter and high rates, but a nice experience overall.
