this is one of two old recordings from the sixties (or maybe seventies) that i have had for a long time, recorded by nonesuch records.  this one is called vidwan and the other one is called kutcheri. rAmanAthapuram krishnan was a musician's musician.  i love his breezy madhyakala (medium speed) singing very similar to another musician from the same era, g.n.balasubrahmaniam.  similar to GNB krishnan had a briga filled voice with an ability to sing staccato swara patterns.  thoroughly enjoyable. and the recording quality is top notch as always from this american label.  krishnan spent a few years at wesleyan university in the company of t.vishwanathan and jon higgins.  this is most likely the first CM album recorded under an american label.

there are also shades of k.v.narayanaswamy (KVN) in his singing. KVN-like but stronger than him. GK, impy, VP, obnoxious and other CM lovers please comment on the similarities.
