....a very austere form of hindusthani music, listen to this recording of raga jog by ustad fariduddin dagar with his student ritwik sanyal from the 70s. dhrupad is minimalistic with the focus on pure tones.  the full swaroopa of the raga evolves very gradually starting with a slow alap, a nom-tom alap (my favorite) which rises to a crescendo, and ends in a short composition accompanied by the pakhawaj.  it's not the most popular form of hindusthani music, but it is primordial.
