Me too.

Pinakapani, Nookala and Nedanuri all gone in about 1 year span. This is a big loss to Telugus.

Among the legends only Balamurali is alive now! Some great up coming talent though in Malady Brothers & Pantula Rama.

Another great Vizianagaram school musician and last of the 4  great disciples of Sripada Pinakapani lost (Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, Srirangam Gopalaratnam, Voleti Venkateswarlu, Nookala Chinasatyanarayana). Yes, he was very old (90+?), but still......

He was 87. He was my favorite singer, it is a huge loss to the world of Carnatic music!

I think, the AP govt. should have a university dedicated to fine arts with branches in Vijayanagaram (named after Dwaram), Mangalagiri (named after Narayanatheertha), Kurnool (named after Tyagaraja), Tirupati (named after Annamacharya), Kuchipudi (named after Vempati Chinna Satyam), Rajamahendravaramu (named after Nannaya), Tenali (named after Sthanam Narasimha Rao or Madhavapeddi Venkataramaiah or Govindarajula Subba Rao), Guntur (named after Sheik Chinna Moulana), Nellore (named after Pendyala Venkateswara Rao), Bobbili (named after Adibhatla Narayana), Ongolu (named after Bhanumati) ..............

In one of SPB's Padutha Theeyaga shows, Carnatic singer Unnikrishnan was his guest. It seems Unnikrishnan's great-grandfather was from Ongole, and he set up the Kesari High School in Madras (Mullapudi Venkataramana, Bapu, and some other famous people were its Alumni). He also derived an ayurvedic formulation called "Lodhra" for women who face problems during their monthly cycles. Lodhra took off, and he became rich. Unnikrishnan still runs that Lodhra business along with his singing avocation. Unfortunately. he started learning Telugu only recently, just so he could read and enjoy his great-grandfather's autobiography.

Here is the wiki on Unnikrishnan's great-grandfather.
