A South Afriocan speaks out against India
A South African Tamil View of Tamilnadu
Saval Govender
TAMIL TRIBUNE, April 2007 (ID. 2007-04-01) http://www.tamiltribune.com/independence/index.htmlI am a South African of Tamil origin and I just read your article on Tamilnadu independence [Reference 1]. I would like to give you my own views.
I think the reason Tamil Nadu has not seceded from India is because its leaders do not wish this to happen. It does seem unrealistic to think that a nation of over 60 million people could not form into a viable country.
I believe that the longer the delay towards an independent Tamil nation, the more the Tamil culture will be lost to north Indian culture.
The race of Tamils has been urbanized and civilized for several millennia. In all that time it had never been conquered and stayed conquered until the fall of Pandiyas, Cholas and Cheras around 1300 AD. The British left in 1947 after about two centuries of rule but Tamil Nadu is still a land conquered. It saddens me to think that this once great people, dominating the Indian ocean, have now been reduced to the margins of history or written out of history books entirely.
South Africa had the African National Congress (ANC). Who will free the Tamils?

Re: A South Afriocan speaks out against India
Tamil nadu is not getting it's so called 'independence' because majority of Tamils don't have a problem in staying in India . The Indian army has not been deployed in Tamil nadu in large numbers and if 60 million people really wanted to revolt , they can do so any time .
The Tamils certainly pass the Tebbit test of loyalty to India---you should have seen the stunned silence in the Chennai cricket stadium when Sachin Tendulkar got out against Pakistan in a test match in 1999 , compared to the cheering when he was batting....

There is no need for deploying many army brigades in TN. We know that at the first sign of revolt, more units will be brought in and the blood bath will continue. What happened in 1965? Military and paramilitary was rushed in and the shooting of unarmed civilians started.
This is what happened in Khalistan and Nagaland too.

100 some people were killed over the entire agitation..... and not everything due to police. You are lying outright except imagining you are telling the truth. That is typical of brainwashed people.

If it is ok for you to accept pirabhakaran's killing tens of 1000s of tamils and children and responsible for the killing of 100,000 tamils y the Sinhalese, then 100 is fine for me too.
BTW, is it ok to claim that 1000s were killed in 1965 as you always claim ? how many actually were killed? can you give a non-tamil tribune reference?

Death Count
The exact number of people killed, maimed and wounded is not available. That is why we used the phrase "uncounted number" in the second paragraph of Section 2.5. Professor Alfred Stepan of Columbia University (USA) writes, "Police and army troops opened fire in twenty-one towns in the state, arrested over 10,000 people, and probably killed over 100 people". Thinathanthi (daily newspapers) added up the death counts published in that paper to 63. However, reading Thinathanthi, it is clear that these 63 were the ones who died at the shooting or in the hospital or on the way to hospital that day. It does not seem to include anyone who died in hospital after a day or more from the shooting. Because of the fast moving events and so many deaths occurring, newspapers did not seem to follow up the fate of the injured. Remember, over 55 of the 63 deaths were in just 5 days between February 8 and 12, 1965; thirty one deaths were reported on February 12 alone. Ages of those killed range from 13 to 50.
