Genuine reform is not possible in iSlam if it is left to the faithful.

First, the last-prophet idea that Mohammad injected into the old book forbids any change from the 7th century thinking.

Second, the faithful end up defending something that is actually keeping the community backward.

Third, right in front of the eyes of the backward-looking community, other communities move on, progress and reap the benefits leading to resentment, confusion and violence in the stagnant community.

Here is a sensible solution for Muslims in India. The govt. should make education free to Muslims, especially women, until they finish college and generously provide scholarships for merit. Just as the 13th Century Christianity transformed itself into a moderate, tolerant faith (with help - aka a kick in the butt - by science) in 21st century (in other wards, Christian dogma is replaced by rational thinking), iSlam will die a natural death. Mullahs may try to be pieceful but they will become a dying breed and a target of jokes.
