Excerpts
From the days of Lothal civilisation, Indians exported spices, textiles and other goods and imported gold, and precious stones. Numerous invasions by foreigners probably forced Indians to own gold which could be moved, hidden or liquidated. The inheritance system especially during the Mughal era where state and its officers' approval was needed to transfer wealth from one generation to the next supported demand for gold.

Ok! The typo aside. I wasn't aware of this. One obvious use case is to make Non-Muslims poor. Give approvals only to Muslims. I am sure some folks tried to hide gold, and god knows what punishment was meted out to them.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:

This along with Jizya was enough to economically break any community and force them to convert, along with direct threats to life. I hope the history books are corrected to include all such stuff that went on during the Islamic Invasions. Young Muslims of today need to be made aware of the discrimination and harsh laws, imposed by the Islamic Invaders to convert Non-muslims.

I would approve a similar thing AGAIN - not for gold or the general population - but, for industrial houses and mega corporations. Inheritanaces should be taxed at 50% as in Britain or 30% in US. The justification is that much of this wealth was accumulated on the backs of the poor.
