Hello!
Hello!
Belated Happy New Year greetings.
Hope you are all doing well..and all is well.
On the public front..paying some attention to the elections..in the US, in TamilNadu..not fully into it, yet:)
Like talented and a little controversial (!) public personalities like Cam Newton, Silambarasan..who else? A few more..keeping up when they play, perform..
Def. getting older..with all the good and bad dimensions..
"As time goes on, you'll understand..what lasts, lasts; what doesn't, doesn't. Time solves most things. And what time can't solve, you have to solve yourself."
~ Haruki Murakami
Take care.

Hello Tracy,
Thanks, good to see you too.
Stayed home and rested for the most part..which was nice (and much needed)!
One of the good things about seniority (!) is that there are fewer expectations and obligations:) Not work so hard entertaining.
How are you..you always have interesting happenings!
Thanks, good to see you too.

Re: Hello!
and what are your hobbies now? i am in about the same position as you and the only hobbies i have picked up is reuniting with school friends (which means party every week! bohemian all the way) and doing some charity (nothing much to speak of). but something is missing. i want to know what others in my position do? i have a lot of free time but here are things i will not do in that free time - exercise, do gardening, read books, become a member of or hold office in any association.Maria S wrote:Hello Tracy,

Don't have a lot of free time. Still quite busy working full time, and juggling/dealing with a lot!
Hobbies..well, enjoying the things I always did. I just meant, cutting back on travel, limiting socializing/interacting..in real life and online.
Well, do like gardening (it's cold now)..watch TV, Sports, movies, music.
To me, besides good health and economic independence..everything else is a bonus.
"Something missing"..only you Mr. SS can figure out a way to fill that gap/void!
Faith, charity/helping others -and finding purpose/satisfaction in what one does..are among the things people do to fill the void.
However, have to sometimes accept "this is it"..and try to be content:)

It's just the way..your descriptions are in detail, make them interesting to read:)

Dont like the republicans and dont like Hillary - too much crookery and she is bad news for India.
Dont like Modi much but hate the rest. Don't like Amma but hate the rest.
In short, I am doing fine hating everyone - EoH.
Glad to know that you are getting older healthily and in 3-d. At my end, life sucks as always and my new year resolution is celebrate birthdays like countdown for the Challenger launch.
Happy Easter.

Happy belated Maatu Pongal (sorry! Only in the sense of the popular Jallikattu Kalai ) and Deepavali in advance:)
I see the love remains unchanged!
The elections are going to be entertaining for sure. If one is not concerned about serious matters..it is quite amusing.
But, predictions only go so far...as your memorable line goes "A known devil is better than an unknown devil" (see, I did not forget!)
On a serious note..hope all is well.

after reading your post i have decided what i will do. i will spend more time with "save india" where my school friend is a managing trustee (elected post and not permanent). they finance and supervise other charitable efforts in rural bengal and manage some projects on their own. my intention to join my friend is not necessarily borne out of charity (it is selfish) - i want to travel to interior, remote bengal and SEE and see more and learn and of course, party with them!

I suppose timing matters, when it comes to giving suggestions (not taking credit for it..just passing on, what I know-was told:)
Speaking of timing..I miss you all too..will come by!
Take care Mr. SS. Bye for now.

i dream of a lot of things, but i don't know if i will retire a rich woman. So, while my first plan is to go on cruises all year round, the realistic chances are that i will sell my house, rent cheap, wear a clean nightie or PJs daily, and play solitaire on iPad or whatever there will be that time all day long.

How about this below? Believe me, if you are still alive after 25 years, you will speak the sentence this way.
What, if, they, don't, you, lecher?
what, will, you, do?
masturbate, more?

Re: Hello!
Hello!
The day after I last posted here..I lost her- my mother.
It has been a difficult time. dealing with a lot, including the short trip to India with all the physical and emotional exhaustion. Although we prepare ourselves for the inevitable with aging parents, it was sudden and has left a great void which will remain forever. My mother was a force to be reckoned with..she led a simple life..lived alone..fiercely independent to the end, smart and strong, well educated and traveled (lived in the US since the 60s) and had a remarkable life..friendly and hospitable towards all..lovely and funny! As any parent and child, we did not always agree, respected her and admired her, remained very close, and spoke to her almost every day. Without siblings and my father's passing, it feels strange..even visiting Chennai was different..She would always wait for me at the airport smiling and happy, come to send me off, controlling her emotions..as many things have, that has come to an end.
I miss her very much..just recovering slowly on many levels..returning to some kind of "normalcy"..
Speaking of which..the US Presidential elections seem to be unpredictable and entertaining..
I will not be involved, will not volunteer to help any campaign. Just observing!
Donald? Behind the bombastic and belligerent talk..is a softie. In the incredible and unlikely case that he is elected, will be soft, change his mind quite often, and will not be scary as he seems now.
Cruz..wonder why the Republican establishment is so against him..thinks he is dangerous.
Marco..seems cute, youngish and very lucky.. the establishment support is a little strange.
John..a Governor with a long political resume, seems qualified..but, the personal appeal is missing.
Ben..don't see him winning any state.
Bernie..okay and lucky..but, let's be real, America will not elect a self-proclaimed socialist.
Hillary..leaning towards voting for her..qualified and experienced..with all the battle scars and baggage..likeable enough, admirable.
Hope you are all doing well.

Very sorry to learn about your mother's passing away. As much as we learn to rationalize and cope with the loss, it is a difficult experience.
Looks like she lived an active and fulfilled life.
May she RIP.

Sorry to hear about your mother. India (visit) will never be the same, and can even turn out to be indifferent as there is no anchor left. All the uncles and aunts are good for 1 coffee or dinner. But, still contact with them are important to remind ourselves where we came from. If you were near her in her final days then you are fortunate in a way (than many others) as your mother must have known that her daughter was nearby, close to her.
I dont have much interest in the American politics this time around as after all the hoopla and drama, there is not a single exciting fresh candidate.

The day after I last posted here..I lost her- my mother. ..................
Very sorry to read about the passing away of your mother, who certainly sounds like a great lady from your description about her in the above and the way she had raised her daughter (yourself) into a highly educated, responsible and decent person. May the departed soul Rest In Peace, and my condolences to the bereaved family.

Re: Hello!
upps... as such this day is not going so well
anyway, i need to counter this with a slightly funny story. one of XH's cousins still calls me bhabhi. old habits. so last night he texted to me, 'bhabhi, girl and i got engaged'. girl being a name that pretty much e'one in my fam now knows as his gf. first i said congrats... then i fought with xh on why he didn't tell me before, as xh had just recently talked with his fam. xh said he had no clue. anyway, then i decided to share the news with my fam on our whatsapp group, as most of them are also close with this cousin. instead of announcing the news in my own words, or taking a screenshot. I copied that text above, 'bhabhi, girl and i got engaged', as is. older understood right away, and began having a discussion with me on a private chat (we were on different floors, ok). then i switched back to my fam chat, and there was my bhabhi, thoroughly confused, asking, 'what's going on' and a dozen other emojis. i was like, why is she so suprised, we all knew cousin will eventually marry the girl. then i realized lol, that she read that text as if it was a message from me to her, 'bhabhi, girl and i got engaged'. hahaha... that one got me family-roasted for quite a bit last night.
