why nations fail: a book by acemoglu & robinson
authors: daron acemoglu and james robinson.
a link to reviews of the book:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0058Z4NR8?vs=1
there are over 600 reviews.
I haven't read the book yet, but hope to, soon. I know of acemoglu. he's a chaired professor of economics at m.I.t.; winner of the clark medal, considered the pre-nobel in economics.
robinson is a renowned political scientist and economist, and chaired professor of government at harvard u.
the book contains a great amount of economic and political history, and comparative analysis of latin american and african nations (with the u.s., I suppose), and of north korea with south korea.
the authors are clear about their diagnosis. key words: incentives, institutions - political and economic - the former determing the latter.
I don't know what the prescription is, and am a little skeptical.
I'm now reading somini sengupta's "the end of karma." she was the new york times's correspondent in new delhi.

Are there anyone who does hold a Chair position at these institutions ?...? With their endowment running into BILLIONS and with the condition that the annual money must be spent (IRS regularions), it is little surprise that every Tom Dick and Honey hold a Chair - which pays an added amount to their fixed salary.
But, more important, what does your ejmr forum say about these pre-nobel authors ?

your question does not make any sense; in my original post, I mentioned two professors, daron acemoglu and james robinson, who do hold chaired professorships at m.I.t. and harvard university, respectively. why then do you ask, "are [sic] there anyone who does hold a chair [sic] position at these institutions?..?"Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Are there anyone who does hold a Chair position at these institutions ?...?swapna wrote:authors: daron acemoglu and james robinson.

this is not a discussion on whether economics is a science, and I have not referred to any such field as economic science. you might want to start a discussion with those who habitually do, in an appropriate thread.garam_kuta wrote:Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:swapna wrote:authors: daron acemoglu and james robinson.
