Eminent Lawyer Jethmalani: Lord Rama was a bad husband Empty Eminent Lawyer Jethmalani: Lord Rama was a bad husband

Speaking at a function on Thursday to launch a book on man-woman relationship, Mr. Jethmalani said, “Ram was a bad husband. I don’t like him at all. Just because some fisherman said something, he sent that poor woman [Sita] to exile.”

He also took a jibe at Lakshman by saying he was “even worse.”

“When Sita was abducted, Ram asked him to go and find her as she was abducted during his watch. Lakshman simply excused himself saying she was his sister-in-law and he never looked at her face, so he wouldn’t be able to identify her,” Mr. Jethmalani said.

After killing Raavan, he had her go through a literal fire test to prove her purity. And just a short time later, he kicked her out when she was pregnant because some douche said something. He had no problem with his buddy Sugreev "taking over" his slain brother Vali's wife.

i also have a problem with Lord Rama ambushing and killing Vali. He could have handled the dispute between Vali and his brother Sugriva more amicably.

Vali was the king of Kishkinda; after Lord Rama took sides and killed Vali after ambushing him, one may imagine that Sugriva became the next king of Kishkinda. But this is not what happened. It was Vali's son Angad who became the next king of Kishkinda. Thus Lord Rama seems to have been all over the place when it came to diplomacy and political relations. This confused state of affairs is best understood if we remember that the original Valmiki Ramayana was composed by a number of people over a period probably spanning several centuries.

Agni-pariksha is / was not in the literal sense (i.e. going through or jumping into fire), but simply taking oath of innocence or seeking pardon for a sin from the deity Agni, as explained in the following (in italics, from the above link).

"the Agni-priksha of Sita (mentioned in the Balakanda: VR-1-1-81, 82, 83, 84; and the Yuddhakanda, after the defeat of Ravan) was probably only about Sita taking an oath (or making a statement) about her innocence in the witness of Agni (the Vedic deity associated with holy / ritualistic fire, Ref.1).  Even though some people (including the readers of Ramayana which uses poetic symbolism) mistakenly think that Agni-priksha involves jumping in the fire to prove one’s innocence (innocent if person comes out alive and unscathed), in reality and according to Vedic hymns the Agni-priksha involves taking the oath of innocence (or seeking the forgiveness for any infraction) in the witness of Agni (the deity associated with sacred fire)."

it's for those who believe ravanan was actually a mutant, ten-headed master, not the real, just 10 times talented, smarter guy
