Smt M.S.Subbulakshmi & Smt Radha Viswanathan were invited to render the invocation on the eve of the inaugration of the 6th Afro-Asian Congress of Ophthalmology, held in Madras, on 04th January, 1976. Since the delegates to the conference were from different nations, this invocation was rendered in 5 languages - Sanskrit, Arabic, Japanese, English & Tamil - with extracts from the Quran, the Bible and other sacred texts. The last section in Tamil is on Kannappa Nayanar, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, who removed his own eyes, when he saw the Lord feign eye-sore.
