He said in the past year, Purinton bounced from one menial job to the next and was sometimes drunk by mid-morning. But in the 15 years he's lived across the street from Purinton in Olathe, Berthelsen said he's never heard him make a racist remark or talk politics. He said he doesn't believe the shooting stemmed from hatred, and that it likely resulted from Purinton's physical and mental deterioration.
"This is someone who's gone downhill very quickly," Berthelsen told The Associated Press by phone Saturday. "He was a drunken mess."

Why did  these 2 guys (desis) continue to stay in the bar after the initial questions. They could have walked out the bar after the uneasy questions. I understand  there are quite a few Ch members drink/go to bar and what would you have done if you were asked such questions in a bar? Walk out of the place or try to reason or go to the manager? I feel if they had walked out they would have lived/not injured.

And more strict gun laws would have prevented this too. Probably drunkards should not be given licence for guns. I was looking at gun laws in texas and it prohibits carrying a gun when one is drunk. But how one can enforce this and once a person is drunk (if heavily) he may not think properly).

What's the guarantee that he wouldn't have stalked them?

At least they would have had a chance to move /go away if they were outside than in an enclosed bar. They should have left the bar after the gunman was escorted out. If they were not drunk or gave importance to their safety than their drinking, they would have walked out. Cops advice not to get involved with angry drivers (with road rage) and advice not to interact with them. Same advice would have helped here (by getting away from that place/situation).  Hope his wife enough gets money to support herself from the govt.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I still am not sure how that guy wouldn't have attacked them in the parking lot.
