Did monomaniacs destroy the scientific trend in Hinduism with the help of monomania?
Hinduism had many great scientific philosophies within it like Nyaya-Vaisesika, Sankhya, (parts of) Mimansa, and (arguably) Lokayata/Charvaka. Unfortunately all the scientific hindu philosophies were damaged and destroyed through fraud and deceipt by the charlatan known as Adi Sankaracharya.
Adi Sankara attacked reason and logic, made nonsensical claims, and managed to win over many converts by using sophisticated philosophical arguments which he stole from the Mahayana Budhists (soonyavadis and vijnaanavaadis). This monomaniac did a lot of damage to Hinduism and to India by propagating monomania.
What do i mean by monomania? It is the belief, propagaged by Adi Sankara, that the only reality is Brahmana(God) which is nirguna (devoid of any attributes) and hence everything and everyone is Brahmana. The appearance of difference between two objects is because of maya according to Sankara.
Essentially what Sankara did was to deny the law of causality. One can deny the law of causality in two ways: either by denying the reality of the cause, or by denying the reality of the effect. Sankara prefers to deny the law of causality by denying the reality of the effect.
Let us suppose a chemical reaction in which one chemical is converted to another. According to Sankara the original chemical is no different from the final chemical and any observed change between the two is only illusory.
This foolish philosophy, which Sankara preached with gutso using sophisticated arguments borrowed from Mahayana Budhists became the preeminent Indian philosophy after Sankara attacked and ridiculed the science oriented Indian philosophies in his writings and managed to set up well funded monastries in different parts of India due to his superior organizational abilities.
Dvaita Vedantists like Madhvacharya have ridiculed Sankara for propagating nonsense and spreading monomania.

Taking a dig at monomania and monomaniacs, Dvaita Vedantists have said that in his childhood and adolescence Adi Sankara must have only been able to comprehend only one thing at a time never being able to imagine a second. This, they joke, must have been the origin of Adi Sankara's monomania.
