i was randomly sitting and thinking, i mean i do that sometimes, it's a good thing, to sit and thing, or walk and think, or think while talking, makes life interesting...
so anyway, i was watching some old desi songs and some of the movies involved love-triangles, and how it was always my pet-peeve, even as a kid in the 70s and 80s, how the third party was made to die in the movie... why? seemed so unfair, but i mean, for the possessive jealous egos back then, this must come as a relief. thank god they stopped doing this towards late-80s, with movies like chandani, sajan, etc.
that brought me to another common dialog. in case of an mmf triangle, the loser would tell the winner - don't worry, i assure you, she is "pure"... what a confident schmuck. I mean, how can he be SO sure of that. I mean, ok she didn't do anything more than nain-matakka with YOU, but how can you guarantee she didn't have a side-thing going on with a friendly neighbor, unless you had a 24x7 surveillance on her.
Anyhoos, i don't know why they never had twisted plots like that back then. heroine was pure pure, so what neighbor who neighbor, but i mean... statements like that should have come with a disclaimer, like "WE didn't do anything, bro. rest is upto you". actually statements should have been, "why are you even concerned, who the eff cares". But that was just the 70s.

Was Sangam one of these movies? I remember the melodrama but can’t remember if it had this purity angle. Mera Naam joker was another one which was off the charts with the self pity theme, but it was an anthology of ‘getting dumped’ stories. It was pretty much the story of one of my friends during his teens and he starting relishing it, belting out hindi songs to go with the mood.
Bollywood is evolving. In the triangle scenario, the day is not far off when the men will pair up and dump the woman. I predict that will be the zeitgeist for the 2020’s.

yeah sangam was one of them hehe - ganga ki tarah pavitra... for some reason he had to say that... maybe this movie set the trend of purity and sacrifice.
