"Vaagai Sooda Vaa" - the call was heard!
Was just reading that the small budget tamil movie "Vaagai Sooda Vaa" with no big stars won the National- Regional Award. Well deserved for a well made period piece! If "The Artist" from the Silent era can win..why not Vaagai ?
Another delightful and "earthy" movie..had heard nothing about it..but, when I watched it..it stood out and felt that it was something special..wondered if others felt the same..and thrilled to see they do too- against all odds of "Mega Movie Makers and Superstars"!
I posted the second song (Sara Sara Saarai kaathu)..when I first started posting here.
The songs from the movie..so visually captivating and memorable..not to mention the haunting music of Gibran..
First the Kabaddi women Champions..now Vaagai..all in one week, it's all good:)

Maria,
Tamil movies did very well in the National Award category. Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai and Aaranyakandam both won many awards. Best new director, editing, wholesome movie, and few others.
Surprisingly none of the other south Indian languages are represented among the winners. More surprisingly no Mallu films.
Good to see Tamil movie industry risking and producing good movies.
Marathi movies have always done well in these Awards.
Complete list

Thanks a lot DM.
Have not seen or heard much about Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai or Aaranyakandam!
And nice to see lesser known artists and movie makers (to me, anyway!) being recognized for their efforts

Sure! If you are ready to be adopted, I am ready to adopt you !
Seriously, do grab some moments when you can-and forget about everything, if there is nothing which involves a crisis/ is the "end of the world". I do think positive thoughts and vibes help to relax. Since you are also very active- physically with high energy runs, excercise and and dance routines- it may be harder to bring the adrenaline levels down..but, am sure you can gradually relax and feel better.
Yes, like comfort food returning to more homely and simple stuff make me relax. Thamizh music, movies which are "light" are among my temporary shelters too.

yeah..I guess the nidhi dynasty controlliing entire tamil movie industry made this innovative, low-budget, good-quality movies possible; so refreshing to get familiar with other local cultures/regions of thamizh nAdu than the stuck up urban chennai's monopolising.. BTW..your it's all good reminded me of Nanban's 'all is well'- a relate but more readily relatable movie is prakash rai's 'dhoni' a good one.. will see vaagai perhaps this w/e.

Sudunaai avargale,
None of the award-winning movies were produced by the Nidhi clan.
Sincerely,
DM.

Saaaaaaaaaaaar ! what I meant to say was that nidhi monopoly drove others to innovate and that necessity is still the mother of invention..something similar to pharma industry and NIH-funded cheshire cats.. just sayin..j/k

"Sudunaai" Cute..like Hot dog! or combining Paris Hilton and Snoop dogg..Hawt Dawg:)
Garam,
Have not seen Nanban..or 3 idiots.
"It's all good" is certainly not original..it's a very common phrase used in Churches (esp. in the South!) Like "Say Amen!"
The problem with watching "award winning" movies..is- it raises expectations..imo, if you keep them low..you may enjoy them more!

solluveengannu theiryum.. pharma industry/NIH funded cheshire cats are the Nidhis while the backwater Michigan eggheads some day will produce a 'vAgai sooda vaa' equivalent in drug discovery, one hopes*doofus_maximus wrote:ippadiye ellarayum kuzhappikitte irunga. Oru naal we will all become
