Dravid to retire on Friday ?
...Looks like this is it for Dravid....
It will be bitter sweet. Hopefully, Dravid with his diplomatic skills and intellectual mindset will serve Indian cricket through other roles for a long time to come.

Was just about to post the link but you beat me to it.
What a champ!
Pity he had a poor Aus tour. He was in such sublime form in England.

May be now he will have time to complete his BA in economics :-) Wish $kar gets his 100th and joins Sharadashram to get his GED. Saamiyar can coach him for free online. Saamiyar you ready? ;-)

Actually, TenDucker will be relieved bcz there will be less pressure on him to retire. Also if VVSL retires, there will be 2 positions that the youngsters can compete for - leaving TenDucker alone for the next 3 years to score his 100th 100.
And, I have a feeling that Sehwag is done as well.

glorious career. i'm nostalgic that he is calling it a day, but happy that he made the decision when it was still under his control. can't say that for very many people. well played jammy!
i have a feeling we won't see the likes of him ever again -- textbook technique, ability to grind it out through difficult periods, frustrate the opposition into yielding to him rather than beating them to submission, soft hands on sticky wickets, the ferocious square cuts and the elegant drives, the finest catching hands in the slips, and that monkish concentration. i've always loved that last thing! ultimate team man.

I have a feeling that in the long run Tenducker will be treated like Kapil Dev and Lara while Dravid will be treated on par with Statesman cricketers wielding much more influence and respect. His exit will be more respectful than that of Ganguly.
In short, history will be much kinder towards Dravid than the Mumbai Mafia.

dravid is already a statesman. see who cricket australia turned to to deliver the bradman lecture last year. they picked him from a team that contains the one player the don acknowledged as his equal!

There is absolutely no one who can replace RD.
Man I am getting sad. What a player. Class Act through and through.
One thing that I admire the most out of all the million things he did was his move to wicket keeping in ODIs and the balance it brought to the Indian team. No other player could have done that.

Re: Dravid to retire on Friday ?
i am following it on cricbuzz (http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/50267/press-conference-as-it-happens)
it is not very often that i have this strange feeling in my throat when i read about people who don't know about my existence. but reading rahul dravid say goodbye to cricket makes me sad. it is difficult to imagine test cricket without dravid. ever since i started following cricket, i always felt assured and confident when dravid was at the crease. my nerves would calm down and i knew that the wickets would stop tumbling. a calm presence would take over the game and dravid would build solid hundreds to build totals, save games and win games. kolkata, adelaide, sabina park would be discussed for decades. rahul dravid has done a great service to indian cricket and has entertained cricket fans for 16 years. well played and many thanks to dravid.
PS - i will watch SRT's conference with my wife since i think i will need more support during that conference than SRT himself.

So many local stories about Dravid growing up in Bangalore - one thing always comes through - he was the Gold Standard even then. Much Respect. Much Gratitude.
