This is a 20 year old "comprehensive UNIVERSITY" that has built its campus on a couple of real hills outside Salem on the highway to Coimbatore. The campus walls circle the big hills with Lord Ganesh statue every 20 feet. I saw that while going by train and was wondering what this "huge Ashram" was. and on return I took a bus which went by the campus on the otherside. That was when I realized it was a University.

Apparently a nurse who was jailed for wrongful actions realized huge money in starting colleges in mid 80s. He started a nursing "college", then expanded it rapidly into Engineering, pharmacy, medical, dental, etc... each year. While this once nurse convict is the 'Correspondent" (equal to a Chairman), his son is the Vice-Chancellor. They have even started a string of "journals" with the Vice-chancellor as the Chief editor of each one. The University is almost as big as SRM and other Universities in Madras.

There are scores of such universities in TN with very few "barely-degreed" holding faculty positions.

Not sure what happened to the Central plan to ban/disband these Damned Universities.
