I can see some valid points in this essay. Facebook/Social media definitely is a time bandit, but don't know if its fair to view this lack of ambition as being unrelated to the general economic malaise.

That may sound harsh, but do we really want to turn into a country where
young Americans can’t even recognize the courage of Tom Joad?

how about young americans recognizing the name tom joad? i'm happy to take that.
