Re: Jahangir and Jesus
Sir, have you considered starting a cult around the deification of Mughal emperors? I hear there's a lot of power, money and influence in those kinds of enterprises.
Conjurer Baba's vast following is now in a state of flux so you could easily persuade large numbers to cross over to your forum..er..cult. Just make this painting of Jahangir and Jesus shed tears / blood / ash and you'll be in business.

one of my favourite jahangiri paintings:
jahangir is depicted preferring the company of a sufi shekh to the sultan of turkey and the king of england.

The prospect of all those nubile women falling over you, seeking bliss doesn't interest you? Are you serious??
Sir, I fear your incessant poring over Will Durant, Rousseau and various translators of Mughal-era commentaries has done grievous damage to you. You need a break. I'd recommend Bangkok.

Pardon me for asking this, but what exactly is the significance of that hourglass below him?? That time flies out of the emperor's ass?

Perhaps it is indicative of the time he will be spending on the throne as king.

Sir, may I suggest that you spend the intervening weekend and week on something a little more romantically inclined than Jahangir and his father? I am sure she would appreciate your efforts a lot more than the long-dead Great Mughals would.Rashmun wrote:m. iyengar is coming over next week-end.

these are faraway kings--easy to insult , as they can do nothing from so great a distance.
i bet jahangir didnt have the guts to insult his powerful neighbour ,the shah of persia in this manner , as the shah was capable of defeating him in battle--already the shah ( shah abbas the great ) had snatched kandahar from him .

yes. the durranis ransacked delhi after auranzeb in the most brutal way and stole (rather were happily gifted by the then mughal emperor) all the mughal treasures including the legendary peacock throne. evidently their interest was more to loot than to rule (the threat from the advancing marathas might have extinguished any aspiration they might have had to rule).
edit. oh, the kohinoor too was lost during the excursions by the durranis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durrani_Empire#Third_Battle_of_Panipat wrote:The Mughal power in northern India had been declining since the reign of Aurangzeb, who died in 1707; In 1751-52, Ahamdiya treaty was signed between the Marathas and Mughals, when Balaji Bajirao was the Peshwa.[14] Through this treaty, the Marathas controlled virtually the whole of India from their capital at Pune and Mughal rule was restricted only to Delhi(Mughals remained the nominal heads of Delhi). Marathas were now straining to expand their area of control towards the Northwest of India. Ahmad Shah sacked the Mughal capital and withdrew with the booty he coveted. To counter the Afghans, Peshwa Balaji Bajirao sent Raghunathrao. He succeeded in ousting Timur Shah and his court from India and brought Lahore, Multan, Kashmir and other subahs on the Indian side of Attock under Maratha rule.[15] Thus, upon his return to Kandahar in 1757, Ahmad was forced to return to India and face the formidable attacks of the Maratha Confederacy.

Was Jahangir secretly playing for the other team? Not that there is anything wrong with it.

it appears that jahangir is in possession of an alu. it is surprising to see there there is no gobhi in his other hand. his wife seems to have made gobhi-gobhi for dinner.

ROFL@anotherbrick. you think jahangir was in the kitchen playing with begum's titties while she was planning to make alu-gobi and she handed him the potato and said here, play with this while I make gobi-gobi curry?

Re: Jahangir and Jesus
why is shah abbas groping jahangir in that pic with the lamb and lion? it looks like he's about to give the ole customary tug job. jahangir's expression seems to be expressing mild revulsion at abbas's bushy moustache "arrey baba, thoda shave karo naa".

LOL. his expressions seem to suggest exactly that. his left hand is still imagining her alu, if you look closely.

in his left hand which is cleverly hidden behind jahangir's rather plump warehouse. we will never know what those chopsticks were used for.

Re: Jahangir and Jesus
i am not sure. falcon seems to be a new world bird. i think the bird in the pic. is a kite. i just checked in on online hindi dictionary. चील translated to kite. kites were used to transmit messages. like chickens and pigeons, kites were also nurtured for sport.
