Talking about people who pay no income tax
Of the ten states with the largest percentages of people with no income tax liability (or in Romney's view, "those who don't take responsibility for their own lives"), eight are overwhelmingly red states -- and the other two (Florida and New Mexico) are evenly split between the parties. I hope voters in these southern states (and Idaho) get offended enough by Romney's callous characterization of them to make their displeasure known to the GOP.

Re: Talking about people who pay no income tax
Conservative commentator Bill Kristol calls Romney's comments arrogant and stupid.
It's worth recalling that a good chunk of the 47 percent who don't pay income taxes are Romney supporters—especially of course seniors (who might well "believe they are entitled to heath care," a position Romney agrees with), as well as many lower-income Americans (including men and women serving in the military) who think conservative policies are better for the country even if they're not getting a tax cut under the Romney plan. So Romney seems to have contempt not just for the Democrats who oppose him, but for tens of millions who intend to vote for him.
And then he moves on to fantasizing about the non-Romney GOP alternative ticket: Ryan-Rubio!

Re: Talking about people who pay no income tax
i don't understand why romney is concerned about people who don't pay income taxes suddenly. he is aiming to be one of them. the republicans take pride in cutting taxes and are proud that the richest amongst them use every opportunity there is in the tax code to minimize their own tax burdens. why is is it suddenly an issue when the folks at the lowest end of the income spectrum don't pay taxes when it is acceptable to pay as little as possible at the highest end of the spectrum?

Re: Talking about people who pay no income tax
That is, if he isn't already one of them. Most of the taxes he pays -- at the rather burdensome overall rate of 14% -- are capital gains taxes, not income tax. And over 2/3rds of the taxes poor and middle-classes pay are payroll taxes and sales taxes, not income tax. If it is OK to take issue with them not paying income tax, it should be OK to take issue with Romney as well for paying little to no income tax.MaxEntropy_Man wrote:he is aiming to be one of them.
When Obama talked about making the rich pay the same tax rate as the middle class, Republicans screamed, "class warfare!" And here is a guy who is actually telling one class of people (the rich) behind close doors that his job is not to care about the other class, and that that class does not take "personal responsibility" and does not "care for their lives."
If Romney uses every trick in the book to pay a lower tax rate than most middle-class people, that is just business acumen and free enterprise. If seniors use the social security payment they have earned by working and paying into the trust fund, or veterans use benefits, or poor people collect the benefits that the state provides them, well, they are moochers.

Today was like a festival day for political junkies!
So many stories..you name it, we had it..and new history lessons, geography (red and blue) lessons, economics lessons, and so many jokes..so little time..and the day is not over..
Speaking of which...
Going to watch Stewart, Colbert (half the show)...and move on to watch Letterman with the President for 100%! Like the part where he quips "we are going to keep it that way" to Dave:)

this reinforces with even more vigor, my long held view that the red state poor who vote republican are dumb as a door knob. because in addition to voting against their economic self interest, they also seem incapable of recognizing hypocrisy even if it came and bit them in their rather sizable, mcdonalds fed behinds.

Haha, here's another number awfully close to 47%: http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2012/09/18/44-of-america-obese-by-2030.htmlMaxEntropy_Man wrote:this reinforces with even more vigor, my long held view that the red state poor who vote republican are dumb as a door knob. because in addition to voting against their economic self interest, they also seem incapable of recognizing hypocrisy even if it came and bit them in their rather sizable, mcdonalds fed behinds.

LOL, it's funny you should say that. The first thing I thought after I saw the Romney video yesterday was that I absolutely must catch Stewart and Colbert tonight! Did you see the news about the upcoming debate between Stewart and O'Reilly? That should be fun to watch as well.Maria S wrote:Today was like a festival day for political junkies!

Re: Talking about people who pay no income tax
i like matt miller's take (http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/matt-miller-romney-video-shows-republican-chutzpah-on-steroids/2012/09/18/3aee81be-01de-11e2-b260-32f4a8db9b7e_story.html). he has from time to time recommended attacking the GOP from the right which is often more effective against them than taking the usual liberal positions which i espouse. for example, showing up paul ryan to be the fake deficit hawk that he is.
So how do these warped perspectives come to exercise such a grip on one side of the debate — even among GOP financiers who in their business lives wouldn’t think of making an investment without the kind of fact-based due diligence that they plainly don’t apply when it comes to forming their political views?

Did you? Oh, oh..be careful now..we may be "somewhat" kindred spirits after all (minus the faith part!) which is possible:)
Seriously, did hear something about it..will look for it, and watch it if I can. I think Bill O' Reilly is boring, but the debate may be lively!
*I am sure everyone will focus on the Presidential debates now..as I have said before, Romney is a good debater..but, there is so much material now..will be interesting to see, how the moderators set the stage and ask questions.

Re: Talking about people who pay no income tax
It is going to be difficult for Romney to play offense at this point. From "corporations are people" to "47%" of Americans can't be persuaded to "take personal responsibility" and "care for their lives," he has no choice but to dig in and defend a worldview that he probably does not even really believe -- if you go by what he believed prior to running for president. Obama is not a great debater (remember the "you are likable enough, Hillary" moment?) but I am looking forward to the debates now.Maria S wrote:*I am sure everyone will focus on the Presidential debates now..as I have said before, Romney is a good debater..but, there is so much material now..will be interesting to see, how the moderators set the stage and ask questions.

Trust me...when you talk to a republican you will easily recognize them by their arrogance and dumbness - seriously. The uneducated Repubs are outwardly honestly dumb. The educated Repubs are cunningly, arrogantly, intellectually dumb.
The Elephant party should be changed to Dumbo Party and its members the Dumbos.
Coming to Mitty's Gospel, he is stupid to subconsciously equate 47% with Blacks and hispanics (trust me...the idiot was IMPLYING that). I am sure he is not intelligent enough to realize that the much of the 47% live in the South....Duh....as such it is hard enough for this New Englander to get votes in the South.
The Dumbos did pick their best guy to be their candidate - the Dumbest.

Looks like party time for bicoastal liberals. Hang on to your party hats there are 50 more days tons money, contempt for obama and unknowns. If this foot in mouth desease remains uncured romney is done. Dems could use this opportunity to consolidate senate and improve in the house. If they get giddy, smart determined section of republicans could surprise them. It would have been wonderful if election were held this week.

You understand that the bicoastal intellectuals view YOU as dumb and uneducated, with a remarkable ability for footinthemouthitis don't you? They view you just like dems view poor blacks during election time and repubs view poor white trash - expedient voters among the narrow group that actually vote

DUT is rather enamored by the word bicoastal. There has been more than few sprinkling of that in his posts the past few days.
You are using that word as if it is derogatory.
