Paging bittu - canon rebel t3i
Canon Rebel T3i (yes not aiming for T4i yet), comes with xx-55mm lens and another lens xx-300 mm. Two lenses and Camera are priced at $650. Worth it? Other shops have packages with bag and SD card and priced at $750 and up.
BTW Camera is 18 MP DSLR. Can take 1080 pixels video.
What do you think?
[Please do *NOT* discuss about my photographic habits or what I do with camera :-) Thanks in advance. BTW as I type the banner on top is displaying the cameras in the advt. Thats exactly where the price was advt'd. Very strange coincidence. Huh?]

Rebe T3i is a "starter" DSL camera and in that league, it is top notch.
You should buy it from B&H. Excellent shop. $599, free shipping and free 16GB memory card.

I got an older version of this (T2i or Ti not sure which one) with two lenses a few years ago, and I am very happy with it.

May be you already know but this deshi guy in www.Shuyna.net has great pictures too. Not to belittle you with that site, but your pictures are simply amazing. May be you can channel your "other well known all over CH interests" to hone your already excellent photographic skills? Just kidding :-)

Thanks TAZ. That guy at shunya.net uses a lot of zoom and that's a reminder to myself that I should probably get a 400mm zoom lens in 2013 I have a 300mm lens but it's not fast. So ya, thanks for making me thinking about dropping 2k on a zoom lens soon

Liberty is right inside the Sun or to the left as a small spike. BTW in this girl friends picture all these ladies look UGLY. Not an ounce of sparkle in their faces. But if you are not looking at faces.. well, we know what it means. Dont we? :-)
Other pix are great. Did you have to lie on your back to take the hercules pic? I once took Statue of Liberty that way - in the load role-print-era of Photography.
Spend your money Ameerji. It is al numbers. You give your card number to BHPhotovideo, they send numbers to credit card and receive numbers and then you transfer numbers from your bank to credit card. All number game without anyone physically touching a dollar bill. It is fun. Ain't it?

I didn't have to lie on my back for any of the pictures. I have a 20mm wide angle lens and that helps. I did have to kneel for some pix including this Hercules one.
The pro level 400mm lens is 9k so I'll skip that. Found a decent 80-400m lens for $1700. Merry fucking Christmas to me!

TAZ, B&H is running a promotion on this camera. You can pick up the T3i for $499 and then you can get a better lens with more focal range than the 18-55.
Camera, says $599 but once you put it into the cart it becomes $499:

Bittu, work of a great camera with good technology.
You'll be amazed how many "super photographers" today's latest cameras are producing everyday.
My 9 year old is taking similar pictures with my Nikon SLR and lenses.

Poor analogy Bittu. You must be living in the film roll era with chance of one shot per occasion, much like the rajma that stove cooks.
My kid takes 200 photos of a setting sun, many same as one you posted.
And I do see great pictures as recent as some I saw on CNN.
Better luck next time.

Not quite. These are just camera body only and lenses are expensive. I am getting two lenses and camera body for 650. So it is still cheaper than bhp store. About the anology of photography and cooking, for now I side with bittu. One needs to have an "eye" for taking good pictures. Otherwise any kid can shoot and a dozen pictures in 5 minutes and it is a not great indication of becoming an excellent photographer. I used to have a colleague who took pictures regularly of the flying eagles, and even the spiders he found in his apt. Once his sister took a picture to walgreens to print and the store refused to print because it looked like a professional copy. That, in my opinion is the mark of great picture taking. Thanks for the links.

lol TAZ your diligence and thoroughness in getting the best deal is TOP NOTCH. A+
btw, 18mp is good if you do a lot of SERIOUS cropping. for 99% people, 12MP is plenty.

Thanks for the grading of A+ :-)
For a moment I thought you said "gropping" and had to re-read to see it as "cropping". Hey not my fault given your CH record :-)

Re: Paging bittu - canon rebel t3i
I have this HP junka$$ 12 mp camera bought in after thanksgiving sale and it aill works!! So buying another 12.2 mp didn't make sense to me. So I backed off. Other shops are charging 750 and up for 18 mp camera with lenses and other stuff. Frankly the other stuff is just other stuff. A real photographer may not need this other stuff but well who am I to say that!

Btw I got the camera y/day and also got 18 mo no interest plan to pay off the 680 bux. Not that i cannot pay now but why pay when the lender himself dont wAnt it now?:-) So not a bad deal.
Now back to camera shooting techniques and reading the manual. I like the camera already for its looks and such. Seems when I put the strap and hang it in my neck people no longer think I am kanjoos :-) it at least increased my personal social status. Lol. Is maatadi listening?:-)

Good stuff, TAZ. It's so much fun to play with a new toy such as this one. I cannot stress this enough: READ the manual. Over and over again if you have to. Also, must learn about exposure, shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Tons of free info available on the web.

Re: Paging bittu - canon rebel t3i
lol TAZ... all good. I have an old Olympus camera, which I have not used for a while. But I have taken some decent shots with it (decent aunty level, not photolog level)... worked good with moving shots too, and helped me whenever I wanted to take kids shots on swings, etc. It also came with that huge lens that K would use to take long shots of beaches, etc.
iPhone has spoiled me now. I hardly carry that big camera. Lost its lens cover too. Then we bought a couple of small ones for daughter, and she's the family photographer now.
I am now feeling inspired to buy a new camera myself. But knowing me, I know it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Did u check with Dollar General and Wal mart, second hand and 1- yr old cameras in camera stores for cheaper deals? After all these will be outdated in 2 years...
