northindian people have been taught that whenever a sentence contains a "why," "what," "where," or "how," it should end with a question mark. do not emulate them; english teacher mrs sharma of indore was quite wrong when she first asked in 1948, "children, why you are making so much noise?"

there are numerous sentences that contain such words, but are not questions, for example, "it's not entirely clear why northindians couldn't defend themselves from foreign invasions from the northwest." that sentence is correct, but does not end with a question mark.
