Most challenging question - modi? Empty Most challenging question - modi?

Post by truthbetold Tue Dec 18, 2012 10:26 pm

NRIs and Indian progressives including myself hoped Gujarat people will end modi's rule. No such luck. All exit polls show modi returning to power with 116 to 140 seats out of 182.
That is a remarkable feat for a guy marked as enemy #1 by congress, communists, Muslims, every other major national party.
In my mind modi failed in protecting the minorities in 2002 at a minimum. He likely aided and abetted the riot perpetrators.
Since 2002, modi won elections at state and national level in 2004, 2007, 2009, and likely in 2012. That kind of record was better than laloo, knidhi, and chandrababu. Naveen patnaik's record is similar. Cpm's jyoti basu is ahead of him.
Question ? Is he really leading Gujarat to economic success?
Many gujju friends think so.
there were no well publicized corruption cases against him.
What is the real deal with modi?

A better question is what is modi doing right that helps him getting elected a third time despite the odds?

I think the Media is now hyping Modi's victory margin, so that even if he scrapes through it would look like a defeat , rather than a victory.

The things media does, to bring him down is amazing.

The picture (that BJP may not do well in Saurashtra) is reflected in the betting market. We will know in a couple of days, the real picture.

I won't be sad if modi loses or fails to score a century.

[url=http://blogs.economictimes.indiatimes.com/RaisinaWatch/entry/modi-the-spin-and-the-plotmodi-the-spin-and-the-plotBblog on the game played by Congress w.r.to Gujarat Elections[/url]

Excerpts
If Modi suffers a shock defeat , the Congress will jump around as ‘the secular conqueror’ . If Modi triumphs, “a shocked and grieving Congress” will give a clarion call to secular parties, progressive sections and the minorities, to rally for a “do-or-die fight against Modi, the hidden BJP PM nominee for 2014”! That gives AICC another plank to seek external help for the 2014 battle . Remember, politics is a cynical game.

Modi is blessed with a dispirited opposition that is bereft of any leadership and a large section of Gujju Hindus that is convinced that they need his protection against the Muslims (who will rape them after 8pm).

Raw,
people saw those congress plans 3 to 4 times. There is no punch left in them.
If modi loses, congress can and will claim secular victory. It should be considered a major political victory for rahul as well.

Merlot,
8 pm rape. Is that the best you can do?

Yes. You should apologize when an old fool like shinde could.come up with some ideas. Read the above news item.
Your godess sonia wrote a letter to shinde and dixit stating that it is shameful to have such rape incidents happen with such regularity.
Now that you got the party memo jump on the bandwagon. Even the hardest politicos recognize how bad the situation is. However hired guns like you keep parroting rapes cannot be reduced, terrorism cannot reduced and corruption cannot reduced.

Gujarat has been prospering, on acct of a probusiness environment and what they say is a large scale reduction of graft. What more could desis hope for? Even douchebag ysr (confuzelled's hero) got reelected in such an environment despite his wholescale looting of state resources, why wouldnt modi get reelected with resounding majority? pay no attention to Secular bleaterans that whine abt breakdown of law and order 10 yrs ago and in next breath excuse under performance elsewhere.

You and that cricketing wizard civil engineer would let fly touch Ysr. You made light of every allegation that is now proven to be accurate. Clever deflections do not cover up your hero.

Some of the pollsters have projected 140 seats, which I think is on the higher side.

Some of the quotes from Congress and their alleged apologists in the Media, exactly as predicted!

P Chidambaram speaking to TV channels says the BJP has been contained to 117 seats, which means the Congress is gaining.

"In Gujarat, BJP had made tall claims that it will get 150 seats and that there will be a wave in its favour. But it has now been proved that Congress has emerged stronger and BJP is weak now," he told reporters outside Parliament House.

Sheela Bhatt says the Congress is regaining North Gujarat, and overall it may improve its tally to 60-plus seats. The BJP has established a firm grip, leading in 109 seats.

"This Gujarat election proves that it's not open skies for Narendra Modi," External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told reporters apparently seeking to underline that the Chief Minister will not have an easy task ahead. When asked why the Congress was unable to defeat Modi in Gujarat, Khurshid said, "Why is Modi not able to defeat us in the country." His remarks came in the backdrop of a section of the BJP projecting Modi as the most prominent prime ministerial candidate of the party in the next Lok Sabha polls.

With BJP set to win in Gujarat, Union Law minister Ashwani Kumar today said that there was no comparison between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Modi at the national stage. "Congress represents secular, inclusive politics of the country. Rahul Gandhi will be the top leader to lead the campaign from the front," Kumar said referring to the Lok Sabha elections that are expected to be held in 2014.

The congress whining after modi victory is like Indian cricket team's meaningless execuses after England knocked them out senseless. To say Gujarat Wong of congress is weak is like saying we lost because we did not score enough runs. Dah.
In a caste ridden society with no strong emotional winds blowing modi's victory is important to note. If he is leading an economic success story it is important for rest of India to observe and learn. Bihar is different from Gujarat but if India can learn a thing or two it would be nice.
The victory does not make modi's past riot history any different. He will still have limited influence outside of Gujarat and Hindi belt.
If modi is implementing good growth oriented economic policies to propel Gujarat to the top of Indian growth charts, other Indians must observe and learn how to provide such growth politics. Growth is stagnating across rest of India. Forget modi the person. Pick up any good ideas he may have had.
