Looks like the RSS chief has never been to the countryside
It seems, the Nagpur wallah doesn't know the meaning of "hit the hay" in the language of the countryside!

Gandharva vivaham is more like modern love marriage.
Rakshasa vivaham - marrying a woman against her will. Followers of PBUH followed this when they were on a pieceful pilgrimage!.
Paisachika vivaham - is the next level to modern day groping! When a woman is sleeping or is unaware of the male next to her, a coward engages in touching and sexual acts (and then marries her so that he can live in society).
Rapes were condemned in old India and the punishment was severe. Under Yudhishtira's rule, they were beheaded. Interestingly, Ravan raping Rambha was considered to be a rape even though Rambha didn't enjoy a good reputation (the reputation of the woman was not taken into account when judgements were made - quite enlightened thinking).

Are you sure! I thought Rakshasa Vivaham is like a normal desi movie plot. Girl likes the boy but parents don't; their only option is to elope to USA and get married.

Aha! I see the origins of another movie custom where the girl is forced to marry antagonist (rapist).

Your example of eloping to the US - still comes under Gandharva.
Your movie example - is Rakshasa type.
Traditionally, in ancient India, only marriages in which the man's and woman's union is considered to be for the purpose of inner salvation (mukti) are acceptable to society. The most common one is Praajapatyam (still followed in modern India). The other good (but very rare) ones were Brahmam, Daivam, Rishyam and Gandharvam (Gandharvam is becoming common now). The bad ones are Arsham (the groom gives a token gift to FIL), Asuram (the groom gives a lot of wealth to the FIL), Rakshasam and Paisachikam. In the last four, either materialism or lust and violence are involved and thus are thought to be against the main goal - mukti.

Just to clarify - Gandharvam was also considered in old India as not a very good way because lust and physical attraction are involved. The idea is that lust and physical attraction are temporary and the union initiated mainly on these may not last long or may lead to difficulties as time passes. Rishyam and Daivan are sometimes classified under one category.
Incidentally, Krishna, in his days, didn't enjoy a good reputation because his enemies made sure that everyone thought that his marriage to Rukmini was a Rakshasam. Sishupal brings this up when he insults Krishna at Rajasooyam.
