Andhra Pradesh:Protests across Telangana against latest Telugu blockbuster
Telangana activists organised protests on Friday in front of cinemas screening the latest Telugu blockbuster Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu at different places in the Telangana region, alleging that it had dialogues allegedly belittling the pro-Telangana movement.
Members of the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) raided Aradhana Theatre adjacent to the Osmania University campus and took away film reels. These reels were later burnt in front of Arts College.
Activists of other Telangana groups ransacked the office of the film’s director Puri Jagannath in Banjara Hills and damaged a couple of cars parked in front of it. As the news spread protests also spread to various parts of the region. Screening of the film was obstructed in Warangal and other districts headquarters of the region.
The film, released on Thursday, has Pawan Kalyan in the lead.
TSJAC spokesperson, Krishank alleged that the dialogues, written by Mr. Jagannath, mocked the Telangana movement. “It reflects the attitude of filmmakers from Coastal Andhra region on Telangana movement and its culture,” he said.
The sudden outburst against the movie forced the director to call a press conference and assure that “objectionable dialogues and scenes” would be removed from the film. He said a special screening would be held for Telangana leaders and on their suggestion objectionable dialogues would be removed. The film’s distributor and noted producer Dil Raju, who is from the region, said that he had spoken to Telangana JAC chairman, Kodandaram and leaders from various political parties and assured them of removing any “objectionable” content.
Interestingly, even the Telugu Desam Party took strong objection to the film’s content arguing that the TDP chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh were targeted. The TDP cadre also burnt the flex boards of film’s hero Mr. Kalyan, younger brother of Congress leader and mega star Chiranjeevi.

HYDERABAD: The screening of Pawan Kalyan starrer 'Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu' was suspended across the Telangana region on Friday after TRS activists ransacked theatres in Hyderabad and four other Telangana districts in protest against what they called the 'portrayal of the region and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders in bad light'.
The film's director Puri Jagannadh, whose Hyderabad office too was vandalized by TRS supporters, immediately claimed that it was not his intention to hurt anybody's sentiments and offered to delete the objectionable scenes and get it cleared by TRS leaders before resuming the screening. The lead female role in the movie is played by Tamanna.
The movie was released across the state on Thursday and the screening was uneventful on the first day. However, at around 11.10 am on Friday, about 30-odd students from Osmania University stormed into Aradhana theatre next to the main campus in Tarnaka and forcibly stopped the screening of the film.
According to eyewitnesses, the students then took the film reels with them and burnt it outside Arts College. A little later, at around 2.20 pm, a group of TRS activists barged into the office of director Puri Jagannadh on Road No 36 in Jubilee Hills and smashed the furniture as well as damaged the window panes of an Audi car parked there.
In all, Jubilee Hills police arrested 16 persons in connection with the incident at the director's office. By around the same time, theatres in Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda and Nizamabad districts too were attacked, leading to the suspension of the film's screening across the Telangana region. Late on Friday night, TRS activists pelted stones at Dil Raju's house in Srinagar colony.
Addressing a press conference on Friday evening, TRS politburo member D Shravan charged that the film insulted Telangana Talli by showing the deity in a bad light. "Some characters in the film suggest that the people identified with the Telangana movement and those who adore Telangana Talli are not entitled to hoist the national flag and sing the national anthem. The film propagates anti-national sentiments and therefore we seek its ban," said D Shravan.

Telangana group to disrupt Seemandhra meet
Hyderabad, Jan 16, 2013, (IANS) :
Telangana Jagruthi, the cultural arm of TRS, has threatened to disrupt Thursday's meeting called by Congress leaders from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions to oppose the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana Jagruthi president Kavita Wednesday said they would not allow the meeting to be held in Hyderabad as it was a 'conspiracy' to stall the formation of Telangana state.
Kavita, daughter of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao, said they would not keep quiet if Seemandhra (Raylaseema and Andhra) leaders tried to create hurdles in the formation of a separate state.
She threatened to mobilize her supporters from all 10 districts of Telangana to stop the meeting. "We demand the government to act and stop this meeting which is aimed at provoking the people of Telangana."
Ministers, legislators and other leaders from Seemandhra have decided to meet here Thursday to chalk out a strategy to keep Andhra Pradesh united.
The meeting is being held in the backdrop of the central government intensifying its efforts to find a solution to the Telangana problem by Jan 28.

why this sudden interest in the internal squabble of southern indians? feeling too frustrated that your hindi-giri is going nowhere and for once folks are quite consistent and united in voicing their opposition to your hindi pushing or what?
