India is shining!
India always has materialism as one of the important aspects of life and mistreatment of mothers, sisters and wives, because of the faulty property laws, is well known. However, these days, not just politicians but also the common men have embraced materialistic fukularism. In ancient times, even a diehard materialist like Ravan was known to be a great devotee of his mother. Hiranyakashipu, who thought that he was all powerful, was very nice to his wife. They both will be horrified to see modern Indians treating their mothers in this fashion:

Not at all unkil. The mistreatment of widows is a very respected tradition in Hinduism. When old people don't have the decency to retire to the forests voluntarily for their vanaprastha (and die), their progeny has no choice but to dump them in Vrindavan or in this case, just outside.
Unfortunately, in this sickular, fukular India, widows and people of lower castes are not heeding Manusmriti. Brahmins just don't get the respect they deserve. That is the root cause of all the problems.

Yeah. The recent brutal rapes and sexual harassment at work (http://ibnlive.in.com/news/bangalore-iimb-sacks-its-cao-for-sexually-harassing-a-doctor/394754-62-129.html) indicate how the society is. India doesn't treat its women folk with respect.

OTOH, King Bharatha, whom the country was named after, wasn't very nice to his mother after all modern Indians are following his footsteps.

You seem very confused abt the name of your country of birth. These are early symptoms of senility. My sympathies are with you.

I know man... I am just needling you... In Indian culture kids are given 3 names - an official one for the school, which is rarely used by anyone except in documents.
So India is the document name and Bharath(am) and HINDUStan are the real names used more often reflecting its (long)tradition.

yeah , the muslims treat a hindu widow better . first they make a widow out of her by killing her husband and then they ensure that she doesnt miss him in bed by dragging her into the killer's bed .

With internet, these are just coming out. Just yesterday, I posted a news item on how a 35 yr old was "jailed" for 5 years - cleveland style. Southies dont believe in killing, but they believe in protecting their family honor by emotional blackmail, mental torture, and in isolation and hiding. Beating old parents is quite common and I have seen this across all castes all my life.
I heard a complaint from a family maami in her 40s that these days the DILs dont even allow their hubbies to visit their parents. So she is already worried about her 19 yr old and 16 yr old sons and looking at old-age homes (I know it is too much wonly.).

Kids most of the time follow the example of their parents including in the treatment of elders, parents and grandparents. So, if this family maami wants to be treated nicely during her old age by her children etc., she better start treating with respect and taking good care of her in-laws to set a nice example to her own teenage sons, instead of looking at old-age homes.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:
