Sadhu Yadav may get the boot from Congress for praising Narendra Modi
NEW DELHI/PATNA: Sadhu Yadav, the estranged brother-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, is set to face disciplinary action from the Congress for praising BJP's election committee chairman Narendra Modi. Yadav, who joined the Congress before the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, embarrassed the party by saying India would be safer in the hands of Modi rather than under Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
"If you compare Modi with Rahul, I think Modiji is much better because he will come to your help immediately whereas you'll have to wait for three years for an appointment with Rahul Gandhi," Sadhu said, adding, "In comparison with Rahul, I strongly believe Modi has much better qualities to become prime minister."
Shrugging off the threat of disciplinary action against him by the Congress, Sadhu, in a telephonic talk with TOI on Saturday, reiterated his anti-Congress and anti-Rahul statements. He even dared the Congress to take action against him, saying, "I am not afraid of disciplinary action. Let the Congress take action against me. If it takes action against me, do you think I will sit idle?" Sadhu retorted.
Congress sources said Sadhu has been a liability on the party as it could not get any political mileage from him in Bihar. Congress was hoping to gain from Sadhu's inclusion into its ranks after the party decided to go it alone in the Lok Sabha polls after an alliance with RJD failed to materialize.
A source said Yadav will be expelled very soon, but Congress would like to keep it low-key.
"I am not sure whether he (Yadav) is still in Congress or not. He had indeed contested the 2009 Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket and then assembly polls in October 2010. But we haven't seen him active in party affairs," said AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed.
In Patna, as part of damage-control exercise, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee said Sadhu was not "a very significant" leader for the state Congress. "Sadhu Yadav is not a very significant leader for state Congress. He is not even a delegate of state Congress. Hence, as state Congress chief, I don't want to even comment on Sadhu's statement," said BPCC president Ashok Choudhary.
He also said Sadhu was a primary member of the party in Gopalganj and the district Congress committee was competent to take necessary action against him. The Gopalganj DCC has issued a show- cause notice to Sadhu and necessary steps would be taken on the basis of Sadhu's reply, he said.
Reacting to Sadhu's meeting with Modi in Gandhinagar on Friday, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said, "There's no question of taking him (Sadhu) into BJP." "Neither Sadhu expressed any desire to join BJP nor the BJP gave him any offer; so where does this question of his joining BJP come from?"
