Steps to eat Sambhar Rice:
- Mix the Sambhar and rice by digging in your hands into a heap of boiled rice.
- Bounced the sambhar-rice muddallu in your hands a couple of times to make a nice wet yellow ball of sambhar-rice
- Sling the ball it into your mouth.
- Chew like a cud-chewing cow
- Lick the leftover sambhar from your fingers and palm and the dribble on forearm
- Repeat

Just woke up. Need to get to the usual chores. Hey, go to residency near holy angels-- 'southern spice' downstairs is great for lunch and the rooftop restaurant (more of fusion food, I think) has great views at night. Sit on the patio and have a drink. Will be a nice reprieve from the daytime heat.

Re: food overload
Have the funnest vacation.
My Sunday was a total waste. Drove to costco, but it opens late. Then decided to go to Shoprite, but then daughter called with sarcasm, 'ya right mommy, the fridge is not working, and you buy more stuff, sure'. Dad had called home from golf to call an electrician. The freezer was melting e'thing last night but we had decided to wait. He must have seen it's still not working ( I just took out the milk for tea this morning, and to me it seemed fine, as no water was leaking out of the freezer anymore).
Anyway, drove back home, and calling electricians. I think it's just time for another fridge. A right step in right direction, coz when I replaced my dishwasher and microwave, I got the steel ones. This is the only one that was sticking out its whiteness. Will get the steel one now, and then the next steps would be to replace the white cabinets with wooden ones, and the white counter with granite ones....

Hey, I will not have someone talk about Joisey in that disparaging manner
(Why does California have the most number of lawyers and New jersey the most number of toxic waste dumps?
Answer: New Jersey got to pick first)
BTW, the Taj Coromandel has a nice coffeeshop inside with a buffet. Its multi culti style, if I remember. There is another one on St Mary's Road. Its a rooftop place called raintree on hotel ceebros (google for this though- its been awhile and I may have the names mixed up, but the Residency rooftop is really cool.

Re: food overload
I can't believe you guys recommending more of the same westernized food and ambiance copied by the desis in a half-baked style.
I would go to small-time dabas, Udipis, and other Iyer Kappee clubs - instead of eating Daal Makkhani, Mutter Paneer, and aloo-aloo, pissa, and lasagni all over again in the hot weather. my wife is planning to go and already made a list of places to visit - the favorite mango juice place, idli place, Channa Bhatura place, iLa neer stalls, Nungu staals, and so and so forth.
Of course, I pick even lower level places.

Eh? I thought it was Tiana who was complaining of losing sleep over having to fly down to India in a blouse that wouldn't fit. And now you are in India? Are you Tiana?

>>>> In keeping with Marathadi's suggestion for down home cooking, try saravana bhavan. I like the one in Pondy bazaar-- go upstairs and try the chili cheese toast. Also, try sangeetha, which is a chain. They have great kadai vegetables. Go to the boat club for lunch.. find someone who is a member. One of GC's friends took me. The food is great, but still go to the residency rooftop.
