One last self-pity party
So, why are desi friends and relatives so interested in my womb? For instance, whenever I complain about this place, the immediate reaction is "when are you having a baby?"
When did having a baby become so easy? It's not like we're one of those fertile myrtles who have popped out four kids before the age of 20.
I posted a picture on FB of me with a baby, and some cousin in India commented "When are you having your own?" I thought that was so inappropriate. I showed the comment to my husband and he completely agreed with me. I mean, we're in 2013. Not 1953. Who talks like that?
Finally, the cop stopped by yesterday and I complained very subtly about this place. I didn't say it was a hell hole because he was born and raised in this place, and even if he privately agrees, it's his home. I said there's nothing to do here and I have to drive more than three hours just to get to a Whole Foods, an hour to get to a non-Piggly Wiggly grocery store, and spaghetti is considered exotic in this town. He became really quiet and then he said "When are y'all having a baby?" Seriously, that is going to make this place bearable? On the contrary, I'm going to be stressed out about finding regular kids (non-welfare, non-Christian, educated parents, smart kids) to take my kid on a play date with.

The idea is that the kiddo engages you so much that you won't even have time to complain about the place.

Well, what about my cousin in India? I never complain about this place on FB. People are so nosy, and it's so rude to leave a comment like that.
