India 164/4, heading into another disastrous outcome. Vijay, Dhawan, Pujara and Rohit all dismissed for paltry runs. Looks like it is up to Kohli, Rahane and Dhoni to at least get to 250.

So the cheerleading ipl Delhi lad can play against steyn and morkel. Pujara showed he belongs but unfortunately got run out.
Shikar dhawan, vijay and rohit did not yet complete the lessons.
Sa did not dominate but is systematically playing to gain advantage.
So far only kohli is firing back.

Good show but from what I read not much help from the pitch to the bowlers.

Not sure 300 would be enough on this track. Saffies may set up big total on us given our bowling woes.

300 is too small with Indian bowling resources. 500 plus is good to put pressure on the opposition. 400 plus would allow boilers some room for experimentation and error. but 300 seems possible. Anything more is a wish.
rest of the team could fold very quickly .

Overall, has been a decent day for us. Obviously, first hour's play tomorrow will be crucial. Rahane showing good promise, with Ashwin still to bat let's hope we can add another 100 to the total.

It may not have been a difficult track to bat on but given the beating he took earlier in this tour, it's a very good comeback by Kohli.

Zaheer finally got Smith but it doesn't look like he still has hold. Let's see if Ishant makes a habit of this (good start).

At tea i thought sa is going to build a massive lead. 1st hour after tea India got sa by their balls at 146 for 6. a 200 looked upper limit. now a 300 could be a possibilit

Zaheer's bowling and vijay's batting are the highlights before tea. Vijay had a torrid time with steyn bowling as fast as 146. He stayed in the middle and started to get confidence. 39 is not a big score but good enough to build on next time around. A solid opener will do a lot for India outside India.
Pujara is his usual solid self and he may have to be the big scorer.
300 plus would be nice.

Battle hard? Ha ha. Without morkel they are short of a bowler and imran tahir is being clobbered. It just 'cos they want to keep wickets in hand today that they are not going after the poor bowling. Just the loss of one pacer has exposed how fragile sa team is.

I was surprised to see AB bowling. Even in IPL matches he was never given the ball. Philander is tricky so our guys better watch it. Vijay gave away his wicket on a poor shot. Pujara looks promising for a change.

One of the best days for indian cricket.
175 after tea at run rate of 4.61.
Pujara scored 96 after tea.
Pujara got his second fifty in 41 balls.
India is ahead by 300 plus. Dhoni would like a target above 500. So it is either all out or play till tea tomorrow.
sa will have to play one of their best to get India out and then win the test.
to me the most surprising outcome is the systematic approach of Indian howlers. They adjusted well and stayed focused when sa was on top with Smith and amla playing well.

Didn't SA crumble for less than 250 on this very pitch? Whatever the state of the pitch I am glad to see the young batting lineup score some runs. Even if this match ends in a draw it is a good result for this team.

i didn't see the first innings but philander got nasty bounce and swing off this pitch. dhawan got out to a splendid delivery by philander. nothing in the pitch for spinners. steyn did not bowl up to his standards -- nothing to do with the pitch.

the emperor has no clothes. why is SA the no.1 test team? except for philander, no one bowled to the stumps! philander consistently bowled to line and length. all others consistently bowled way off stump. are you relying on your bowling skills or only on the batsmen's mistakes and your slip fielders? kallis should retire. jonty rhodes is no more (not sure is he is actually "no more;" was he in the propeller plane with cronje?) -- their fielding sucks now. and who are their batting legends? i don't se de kock here. i am asking these questions in a good faith as a novice. someone fill me in with the details. tbt?
