the merlot drinker types are drunk on two types of intoxicaters. one is the merlot kind of liquids which will wear off after few hours. second type that keeps them permanently intoxicated is their own sense of infallibility of self ascribed intellectual superiority.

New Delhi: The mystery over Sunanda Pushkar's death deepened on Wednesday with the latest revelation hinting at a scuffle before her death.

In the latest details emerging out of Sunanda's forensic report, a deep bite mark was found on her hand. Her upper extremity was dotted with over a dozen of injury marks on hand, an arm, chin, and neck and these were termed as 'scuffle marks', sources said.

The autopsy report of Sunanda has attributed her death to poisoning by drug overdose, while ruling out the 'scuffle marks' as minor injuries.

However, the scuffle marks may impact the investigation as the Delhi Police has been directed by the sub-divisional magistrate to probe whether it was a suicide or a murder.

The police meanwhile urged the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to speed up on Sunanda's viscera report, which might have clues to the mystery.

Had Pushkar been forced to consume poison, there would have been residual traces on her lips or trachea, a senior police officer told HT condition of anonymity. “However, no such traces were found. There are no syringe bumps which rules out poison being injected into the body,” the officer said.

A third party involvement was also not possible as the room from where the body was recovered was “undisturbed”, the officer said.

They were now ascertaining if Pushkar was poisoned gradually but would have to wait for the viscera report to identify the poison, the officer said.

“What remains to be seen is whether she was consuming a high dosage of alprazolam deliberately or was being administered huge doses by someone else without her knowledge,” he said. Almost 15 gms of alprazolam, which is used for treating anxiety and panic disorders, was found in Pushkar’s stomach during autopsy.

Strips of the drug were also found in her handbag. Though AIIMS authorities remain tight-lipped about the autopsy findings, source said the five-page report emphasised on more than a dozen external injuries on Pushkar’s body that appear to be scuffle marks.

The latest Shashi-Sunanda shenanigan is only the tip of the iceberg in the curious case of the Tharoor marriage.

Delhi-based friends of the couple have been alluding to powerful third parties who have come between the two for many months now. These involve names so sensitive and people so high up in the national firmament that even we so accustomed to hearing about the escapades of the high and mighty, thought it best to ignore what could be the biggest scandal of all time, until it was confirmed.

But now that the flood gates have opened, how long before stories surface that will make the Mehr Tarar episode appear like a teddy-bear’s picnic?

Mail Today has pieced together the last two days of Sunanda's life. The details have been revealed to this newspaper by a close friend who has declined to be identified for reasons of privacy. The friend's account is vital for it reveals that at least three people were present at different times on Wednesday evening with Sunanda Pushkar in room 307 of the Leela Palace. After an ugly spat with husband, junior HRD minister Shashi Tharoor in the aircraft on Wednesday afternoon, Sunanda refused to accompany him to his Lodhi Estate residence on arrival in Delhi. Instead she booked herself at the Leela. This is the friend's account: After landing at Delhi airport on a flight from Thiruvananthapuram with Shashi Tharoor, Sunanda refused to go to the Tharoors' government bungalow in Lodhi Estate. This paper had earlier reported that the two had been arguing in the aircraft as well at the airport.

Sunanda went straight to the Leela Palace hotel and booked herself into room 307 and not in suite number 345 as earlier believed. In the evening, a close friend, who is also Kashmiri and lives in south Delhi, came to assuage and calm her. But Sunanda was unrelenting in her anger and she refused to listen to him. They were then joined a prominent former CEO, also a close friend, who spent a couple hours in the room, trying to reason with her.

Soon after this, another friend of Sunanda's, who is a woman, came. She realised that the situation was out of control and moved into the room. The other two friends left after some time.

In the presence of this friend, an agitated Sunanda called up Mehr Tarar, the Pakistani journalist who she had accused of having an affair with Shashi. She continued to chain-smoke through the night and was nervous and stressed. Soon after, Shashi came to the room and was "contrite and apologetic". But her rage was such that she refused to listen to him. The next day, he also booked two rooms, number 345 which was the suite Sunanda was found dead in ultimately and number 342 for his staff.

Sunanda, the friend says, then began to feel a little less agitated and at around 2:30 on Friday morning, ordered a mushroom soup for herself and burger for her friend.

Sensing that Sunanda was feeling better, the friend left for the airport around 5am. That was the last time she saw Sunanda alive.
