>>How do you know whether a fellow is a Kamma or a Kapu?

At least TN brahmins have distinct sub-culture like wearing the thread, dialect, accent, food habits etc. But when it comes to castes like Reddys, Kammas and Kapus everyone seems to do the same.

Well for men, you look to see which way the boys hang. To the left means Kapu, to right means Kamma. Reddys hang neutral

Here is a simple test. Say something bad about Balakrishna. If the telugu fellow slaps you in anger, he is a Kamma for sure. If he smiles and says nothing, he is a Reddy. If he adds a few abuse words of his own to what you said, he is a Kapu.

So, you think that only Tambrams scratch their backs with the thread?

I brought up Tamil Brahmins as an example.

Nothing. All you have to do is ask: 'Excuse me. What's your caste?'
