Turnout in India more than in UK polls: British diplomat
RAEBARELI: The excitement surrounding general elections in India attracts attentions not only from international media but from the governments and residents of other countries too. Britain is no exception to that. To take a feel of what electioneering in India is all about, British High Commissioner James David Bevan is visiting constituencies which according to him hold importance in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. No wonder, Raebareli had to be in his itinerary.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is the sitting MP from here. However, Bevan had come to Rae Bareli to meet BJP candidate Ajay Agrawal from here.
The meeting was held at Agrawal's election office in Rana Nagar. Bevan, who was all praise for the high turnout, admitted that it was even more than that in Great Britain. A diplomat by profession, Bevan while replying to a question on his observation of Modi wave, said that he has been hearing a lot about several leaders including Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi wherever he has gone.
Quoting what Britain prime minister had already said, Bevan, to a question on UK's relation with India if Modi becomes the prime minister, said that Britain is eager to have cordial relations with any government that is elected democratically and added in fact the UK government would like to take the relations a step forward once the next government is formed. ......................
