the fight resulted from different interpretations of a secular state with specific reference to India. One thing to notice here also is that there exists greater diversity of opinion within secularists than it does in the chaddi camp. I used to think of the secularism of people like Mani Shankar Aiyar to be 'fake secularism', but i think Aiyar makes some good points in this debate. The UCC should certainly be introduced but with a great deal of sensitivity towards muslims in particular who are feeling mentally and spiritually bruised after the recent Indian elections. It must be explained to them that this in their own interest (specifically in the interest of muslim women), and it must not be construed as some kind of attack on their religion.
