According to Hindu tradition, he was born in Mathura, spent his childhood in Gokul, then grew up in Nand Gaav (where his family migrated to get away from his maternal uncle Kansa). The village of Barsana, adjacent to Nand Gaav, is the village of Radha who was his sweetheart. Oh, and he would go with his friends to graze the cows in Vrindavan. All these places are in Uttar Pradesh. Hopefully you are not a Charvaka who spits on hindu tradition.

That Mathura is not the present Mathura. He may be a gujju. According to one theory dwaraka was on the Gujarat coast before it was submerged.

its not just about Mathura. it is also about other places in UP like Govardhan hill (which he held aloft using his little finger), Gokul, Vrindavan, Nand Gaav, Barsana, etc. which are all associated with him and his life and which are present in the UP of today.

So, Kamsa, Chaanura, Jaraasandha, Banaasura, Pootana, etc., were all genuine UPwallahs.
