amir khan - fire storm

The comments by Amir khan few days ago sparked a firestorm of pro and counter comments.

I wrote in a post here some days ago that an indian muslim will feel offended by the comments/actions made by Hindu rightwing (BJP/shiv sena/rss and its various affiliates). It is not difficult to understand how Amir khan felt. His expression of fear for his family is not at all surprising considering he is in Mumbai which is a hotbed of shiv sena's illogical acts (to cause discomfort and score political points over BJP ).

As expected, congress, sp, ncp, and other parties are taking advantage of Amir Khan's popularity. But then every political party is opportunistic.

But BJP's reaction is immature and self defeating. They are trying to take on the expressions of popular people and try to refute them with labeling them as anti patriotic. Ordinary people do not buy that kind of argument. Another common rhetoric is 'go to pakistan', which is very insulting and irritating. Modi and BJP govt leadership failed to control these forces before bihar elections and are failing again. Such rightwing atmosphere will hurt India's economic progress. BJP will lose their support among young people who are looking for a change in India's fortunes.

Is Amir Khan's speech perfect and above blemish?

I think it is not smart of him to bring his wife's name into the discussion. Whoever advised him thought this is smart as she has a hindu name. But which sensible head of family would bring his wife's name to deliver a very controversial statement? A person in Amir Khan's place should have used "MY family felt ......" .

Amir khan is wrong in suggesting that he and his family would like to emigrate from India. He is free to do so for whatever reasons. No body is hindering his desire to go some place. He was trying to gain some advantage (political or whatever) by saying that but not acting on that (in other words this empty threat for publicity). what would amir khan the rickshaw puller would do if his family is threatened? How would famous Amir khan helping the common muslim? How is he supporting the movement against loud mouth right wingers?

But Amir Khan's errors have limited impact on Indian public life compared to Central govt/ party representatives pronouncing anti muslim rhetoric.

Do you really think Aamir/Kiran discussed in private on leaving India?  There is an agenda.

As India found out, Aamir Khan is a cry baby and an idiot.

The most loved, most rich, most successful actor discussing in private with wife on leaving India. And on what grounds?

Maybe he wants to leave India to save in taxes.

there is a difference between my wife says we should leave india and it's a disastrous thought that my wife said should we leave india.

If a common man feels threatened to live in india, i agree it would be disastrous. but things aren't that bad. not even remotely. 

when amir khan went public with his wife's statement, he agreed the situation is so bad and therefore called it disastrous. Instead he should have put things in perspective for his wife and stayed out of this debate.

it could be a publicity stunt. we don't know. everyone is washing their hands in behti ganga.
