Our own Mission Accomplished moment!
Two days after the PM and Home Minister congratulated our brave soldiers for neutralizing the terrorists, it turns out there is still ongoing gunfire and explosions at the airbase.
Now the suspicion is that 8-10 intruders got in and not just the 4 who were killed.
And all this despite having specific advance intelligence, based on which the location was on high alert, and all kinds of super-specialist agencies had been flown in to safeguard it!

The specific advance intelligence didn't seem to give out the correct number and groups of intruders. This coupled with a 2000+ acre area covered with vegetation that needs to be searched and secured along with the objective of no damage to assets should be making this operation complex and prolonged. I see more of an intelligence failure than ground execution or political will. On execution front the loss of 7 martyrs is something that needs to be taken seriously and strategies reviewed to minimize loss of life on our side.

Re: Our own Mission Accomplished moment!
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-35232599It took Indian authorities four days to put down a deadly attack on the Pathankot air force base near the Pakistani border which killed seven Indian soldiers and wounded another 22. The inept handling of the security operation can only be described as a debacle, writes defence analyst Rahul Bedi.
According to official accounts, the National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had advance intelligence of the planned attack on 1 January.
But military analysts said India's response to the attack was amateurish - there were inadequate offensive measures and the multiplicity of forces involved and a lack of suitable equipment rendered the entire operation a near fiasco.
When the attack began, Mr Doval chose to airlift some 150 National Security Guard (NSG) personnel from their base at Manesar, on Delhi's outskirts, to fight in an unfamiliar terrain.
The operational command for the mission was handed over to the NSG, the Defence Service Corps (DSC) and the air force's Garud Special Forces.
The DSC comprises retired and unmotivated military personnel, whilst the Garuds continue to struggle for operational relevance amongst the plethora of India's burgeoning Special Forces.
In what appeared to be an obvious desire to control the operation, Mr Doval ignored the presence of some 50,000 army troops in the Pathankot region, possibly the highest such concentration in the country.
Reports said he requested the army chief for just two columns - 50-60 troops - to provide back-up support to the operation.
Let's see if Modi is going fire this idiot, this is his second goof up. Is this the same joker who warned Pakistan "You do one more Mumbai, you lose Balochistan"

First of all Doval should not even be executing the operation as he is from intelligence and not military. It shows that Modi trusts very few - Amit, Doval, etc. Dont think he trusts Parikkar or even Gen Suhag Singh ( who was appointed to avoid controversy).
This is the big negative of Modi that I have been harping since he took over. By now, he should hv expanded the "circle" This attitude defeated Bihar for BJP and will undo the BJP in 2021 as I have been predicting.

True. Unless we know the exact number of intruders, the batches they were traveling in, what they looked like, and if possible their names, father names and village name in Pakistan, it is unrealistic to expect that the attack could have been pre-empted. Only sickular fukular supporters of the CONgoons say such things to make the current regime look incompetent.

Irrelevant. The complex and prolonged sanitization process would not have been needed if only the intruders had been detected in the 24 hours that lapsed between the carjacking and the attack.

On the contrary, this seems to be entirely an operational and governance failure.

Sir you had the benefit of an additional 36 hours of news and analysis since the time I posted above. In anycase, I had already posted link to the possible Ops/Governance failure debate above.

Looks like people are losing faith in this govt's ability. I don't blame them given the brief history of this govt's mishandling of issues pertinent to nation's security; starting from overzealous boat fire, hawkish operation in Burma, Border skirmishes, Pathankot fiasco and now this.
