our splendid npr host, krys boyd suggested, during an interview, that the one word that's understood all over the world is "okay" or "ok." her guest - I forget his name - who had been the chief editor of the oxford english dictionary, agreed.

according to the guest, "okay"/"ok" originated in boston, around 1835, as a short form of "orl korrekt." I don't know if he was joking, or if the words were ever spelt thus.

I would like to know which spelling - "okay" or "ok" - is more common. google will have an answer. I always spell it "okay."

amendment to my first sentence above: "the splendid host, krys boyd, of npr's local, daily talk show, 'think,'..."
