Ancient Egyptians far superior to Ancient Indians
There can be little doubt about the fact that the ancient Egyptians were far superior to the ancient Indians. Whereas the Egyptians constructed majestic and splendorous pyramids, the Indus Valley Indians came up with the Great Bath at Mohen jo Daro and the Granary at Harappa. Even to compare the two civilizations is laughable.
The Vedic Aryans were of course barbarians who did not do any constructive activity other than coming up with the Vedas. Of course, they were also good at fighting.
It is important to mention this because the Chaddis seem to imagine that ancient India was more advanced than any other contemporary civilization.

Re: Ancient Egyptians far superior to Ancient Indians
even the ancient Mesopotamians seem to have been superior to the ancient Indians when it comes to architecture and sculpture. Is there anything comparable built by the ancient Indians when compared to the amazing Lamassu statues of Mesopotamia?:
Lamassu are human-headed, eagle-winged, bulls or lions that once protected cities in Mesopotamia. They were believed to be very powerful creatures, and served both as a clear reminder of the king’s ultimate authority and as symbols of protection for all people.
The most famous colossal statues of Lamassu have been excavated at the sites of the Assyrian capitals established by King Assurnasirpal II (reigned 883 – 859 BC) and King Sargon II (reigned 721 – 705 BC).

Re: Ancient Egyptians far superior to Ancient Indians
my objective is not to bash India but to impress upon Indians (particularly chaddis) that great work was done in various spheres of culture by non-Indian civilizations in the ancient world. It is not as if ancient Indians alone were doing great work.

Rashmunnu, the greatness of any civilization isn't measured on how big they built their structures. It's to do with how long it has lasted. The egyptian, greek and other civilizations and all collapsed. The indian civilization hasn't. It withstood all kinds of invasions, conversions, colonizations, etc, reformed itself from time to time and is still continuing to thrive and will thrive in future too. That is its greatness. Usme damm hai.

That is only one yardstick of judging how great a civilization is, and by this yardstick the chinese and japanese civilizations are also very great.
Ancient chinese invented compass, gunpowder, paper making, and printing.* Other than these four inventions, they also invented the calendar.** What did the ancient Indians invent?
----
* The Four Great Inventions (simplified Chinese: 四大发明; traditional Chinese: 四大發明) are inventions from ancient China that are celebrated in Chinese culture for their historical significance and as symbols of ancient China's advanced science and technology.[1]
The Four Great Inventions are:
Compass[2]
Gunpowder[3]
Papermaking[4]
Printing[5]

Re: Ancient Egyptians far superior to Ancient Indians
and as far as the continuity yardstick goes, the japanese civilization is clearly superior to indian civilization:
The Imperial House of Japan is the oldest continuing hereditary monarchy in the world.[3] In the Kojiki (finished 712) and Nihon Shoki (finished 720), it is said that Japan was founded in 660 BC by Emperor Jimmu. The current Emperor is Akihito. He acceded the Chrysanthemum Throne upon the death of his father, Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito), in 1989.

eh? We are not talking about the continuation of monachies here in this thread. We are talking about civilizations.Rashmun wrote:and as far as the continuity yardstick goes, the japanese civilization is clearly superior to indian civilization:

Kings came and went, kingdoms rose and fell, invasions and colonizations happened, but Sanatana Dharma remained. It didn't have anything to do with the fleeting things. Satyameva Jayathe! Anything which is true will remain until the end of time.
I know you hate to accept that, but it's ok.

Excuse me, "Sanatana Dharma" did not really remain Sanatana. The Hinduism of today is completely different from the Hinduism of the Rig Veda and other Vedas. To give one example, the main deities of the Vedic (including Rig Vedic) Hindus were Indra, Varuna, Agni, Mitra, Asvins, etc. Whereas the main deities of today's Hindus are Shiva (some say the prototype of Shiva is the Vedic deity Rudra, but there exists no definite connection between the two), Vishnu and his avataars (particularly Krishna and Rama), the Mother Goddess (the worship of the Mother Goddess is very ancient but this worship is generally considered a part of non-Vedic Hinduism), Ganesha, Hanuman, etc.
If you were to ask a Rig Vedic Hindu for who the most important deity is, he would name Indra. By far the maximum number of verses in the Rig Veda praising a particular deity are devoted to Indra. However, as we know, Indra is a minor, somewhat insignificant, deity to today's Hindus.
So Rig Vedic Hinduism is clearly very different from the Hinduism of today and the term "Sanatana Dharma" is a fraudulent term designed to befool the gullible.

Rashmunnu, dieties is not what makes hinduism. I may worship the sun or i may worship Vishnu or i may worship Siva or may worship Shirdi Saibaba or i may worship none at all. I will still remain a Hindu.
Anyway, let me stop here. Good luck!!

your understanding of Hinduism is very different from a Rig Vedic Hindu's understanding of Hinduism. You may think performing yajna as a form of worship is optional, but to a Rig Vedic Hindu, performing yajnas as a form of worship was mandatory.
The Rig Vedic (and other Vedic) Hindus were unfamiliar with the concept of worshipping in temples (unlike contemporary Hindus). To them, performing yajnas was a necessary but sufficient form of worship.

Interesting difference between Rig Vedic Hindus and present day Hindus. Just to add to this - from whatever mythology I have read, rishis, asuras and kings used to do multi-year penance for the likes of Shiva, Vishnu, etc. So today's main deities may not have been the most important deities of yesteryear but were worship worthy and penance worthy nonetheless.Rashmun wrote:kinnera wrote:eh? there is no mention of Vishnu anywhere in the Vedas or Upanisads. Vishnu and his avatars are described in the Puranas and the epics (Ramayana and Mahabharata), but these were composed long after the creation of the Vedas.
