White Black and Brown [Martin Gardner]

Professor Merle White of the mathematics dept., Prof Leslie Black of philosophy, and Jean Brown, a young stenographer who worked in the univ's office of admissions, were lunching together.
"Isn't it remarkable," observed the lady, "that our last names are Black, Brown, and White and that one of us has black hair, one brown hair, and one white".
"It is indeed." replied the person with black hair, "and have you noticed that not one of us has hair that matches his or her name?"
"By golly, you're right!" exclaimed Prof White.
If the lady's hair isn't brown, what is the color of Prof Black's hair?

that is true. all three names seem like women's names. Was confusing in figuring out who the woman was.

My reasoning:
1. The lady does not have brown hair. Therefore she cannot be Ms. Brown.
2. Professor White replied to the lady. Therefore she cannot be Professor White.
So she must be Professor Black and must have white hair since that is the only possible hair color for her based on the rules and the information given.
