Macherla for capital of SA?
Will it fly?
Pros - In the heart of SA. Relatively close to Hyderabad.
Cons - Dry. Non-proximity to highways? Palnadu has a negative impression due to Srinatha's poems.
Amaravati may be better relative to Macherla. Nice name (capital of the gods), historic capital (of the Satavahanas), plenty of water, excellent scenic beauty, no highways nearby.
Ongole is better too. Lot of free land, close to National Highways, close to Rayalaseema, but no water.
Kurnool is also good - good water, good roads etc., but it's in Rayalaseema (breakaway possibilities).
Vizag -- Scenic, no water, local don't want the capital. Too far up North, not the geographic center.
Nellore --- Close to Madras (can be good or bad), but too far down South, not the geographic center (bad).

A distributed model would be best. 50% around Krishna river, 25% with high court in kurnool or anatpur and another 25% such industry and education near godavari or vizag .

Chennai is not at the geographic center of TN. Neither are Bengaluru or Mumbai or Kolkatta in their respective states.
But support seems to be a low as other than the lightweight KC Deo , no other politician is pushing for it.

Bangalore / Calcutta are cultural centers (if not physical centers) of those states. Chennai (Madras) was some sort of a physical center in the old Madras Presidency, and also its cultural center. Bombay never was (either in the old Bombay Presidency, nor the present Maharashtra; Pune is the cultural center, and some small city may be the physical center of Maharashtra). Hyderabad too all these days may have been somewhat of a physical center but not a cultural center in AP. When it was just about to become one, the division came.
About picchi daani chetilo raayi. Yeah that could happen. Naturally Center wants to get by cheap without spending too much money. They may simple go for Vizag.

I thought Mysore was the cultural center of Karnataka and Madurai/Trichy for TN.
Apparently the capital is already decided as donakonda and the central ministers like Chiranjeevi and Purandhareswari alreay purchased thousands of acres of land around it.

Re: Macherla for capital of SA?
what is the point? one needs to build everything from ground up. what benefit is there if there is govt land?b_A wrote:Google maps shows it near Ongole.truthbetold wrote:Where is donakonda? is it dharanikota?
they could build a big capital on top of the nallamala hill range . what is the point?
how are.they going to.attract private investment for new business? how are they going to get anybody interested in infrastructure for the city? it is too far from coastal economy.
vijayawada-guntur vizag tirupati kurnool and 30 km around them should be the options. otherwise these forsaken places will never develop.
is this another trick of chidambaram to decimate seemandhra economy?

Madurai, Thanjavur, and Kanchi are more of cultural centers of TN. Madras is only 300 yrs old.
Of course, with Madras extending and engulfing Kanchipuram, it soon will be a cultural center of TN.

It seems this place is about equidistant from Vijayawada, Guntur, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Nellore, Cuddapah, and slightly more to Anantpur. It is on the railway line between Guntur and Bangalore, and has a WW II airstrip. No water. They are going to ask the Center to tell Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka to release 10 TMC of Krishna water (the same amount of Krishna water that goes to Madras).
But why such a bad decision to pick a no name place. The 50,000 acres free land is not a good excuse. There is plenty of free land in the Eastern Ghats. In fact there is so much free land right around Ongole.

The least we could hope for is that they don't rechristen the place Soniabad or Rahul Patnam.

Re: Macherla for capital of SA?
The point is that there should be cheap land available to buy for the politicians in the know so that they can hit instant jackpots and the politician civil contractors like kavuri etc. should get plenty of contracts building from scratch.truthbetold wrote:what is the point? one needs to build everything from ground up. what benefit is there if there is govt land?b_A wrote:Google maps shows it near Ongole.truthbetold wrote:Where is donakonda? is it dharanikota?

Re: Macherla for capital of SA?
The cheap land for politics could very well be the reason. another one could be the balancing act between Costa and rayaalaseema and caste equations. but such a non entity development is impossible.
perfect location is between vijayawada-guntur . vizag could justified a little bit. either one with a second capital in kurnool could pull the state on its feet in 5 years.
we may never see the rising andhra again.

Re: Macherla for capital of SA?
Just imagine what Rangareddi dist would look like without Hyderabad. Ongolu area (or Vinukonda, Macherla, etc.) won't look any worse.
Indo: Macherla and Palnadu area had great history. However, the people in that area are rough and tumble type. Even now, if you travel by train to Macherla area, you are advised not to pick fights with Palnadu guys on the train. I like your idea re. Amaravati. All those Tankbund statues in Hyderabad can be shifted to the new capital (and add Gautamiputra satakarni, Nagarjuna, Brahmayya Naidu. Tandra Paparayudu, K. L. Rao, Prakasam, Yellapragada Subba Rao, etc.). Like what kakatiyas did in Orugallu, they can renovate Amaravati's Shiva temple to a grand scale and make it a pilgrimage center that rivals Sri Sailam and Tirupati.
Separating the administrative capital from economic zones would be good. They can have 5 zones - Rayalaseema, Nellore, Vijayawada/Guntur, Rajamahendravaram/Kakinada, Visakhaptnam/Vizianagaram. They can have education centres and health institutes in Tirupati, Vijayawada, Kakinada and Vizag.
They should change names of towns to proper Telugu ones:
Ongole - Ongolu
Ponnur - Ponnuru
Guntur - Gunturu
Nellore - Nelluru
Vizianagaram - Vizayanagaramu
.....................
If things are spread out, there won't be any new demands for separation. In any case, the capital SHOULD be in coastal Andhra (may be close to Rayalaseema - Vinukonda/Ongolu?) so that Andhra guys won't be cheated again.
Incidentally, The Guntur/Vijayawada/Tenali triangle was part of Velanadu in the past.
